Does anyone have experience making your own holster? Leather or Kydex? I'm looking for some advice, maybe some tips and tricks. I want to make my own but have no experience with this.

I want to make my own appendix carry holster for my shield 9 mm. Was wondering if there was some good things to know? What all is needed? What kind of method is there?

I foam press all of mine... I used a vacuum sealer for a couple and its ok but its not any better imo and not as easy to me.
I use 1" garden kneeling foam and 2x8's and 6" or 8" cabinet clamps. I heat it in my oven and use a heat gun for fine detailed stuff.

Oh I also tape blocks on the gun where clips are gonna be so screws and stuff wont be against the gun itself.

This was a live stream of how I do mine so its a little all over the place since in talking to people in the stream but its the first 80% of how I do one.... The rest is just polishing the edges up. Its an owb but same concepts

I watched part of it, I will definitely sit down and watch it all the way through cause I'm sure you answer a bunch of questions.
Is there a reason to have the muzzle exposed like you did? Or is that just preference?
Would you suggest using the gun itself or would a mold work better?

I like using the gun but I don't guess it matters as long as its the exact same. I typically leave own a little short cuz I can really and it looks cleaner to me to have the edge of the gun be what your eye falls on instead of just some kydex... But iwb I cover the edge so it doesn't cut into you

i forgot to say also, go ahead and make it say 10% bigger than you think you will need it and you can trim off the extra after... kydex wont stretch to fit haha

Looks a little dated. I do leather work, and if you were to go that way I might have things to say that would help. I looked at the kydex rig above, and saw no stitching so I knew what it was right away but it has a leatherish look. If that was leather, just sayin. If it was at that point some stitches would be put in to get the basic form. Maybe all the sewing would be done at that stage depending on how tight you wanted the holster to be. And IF it was wanted to really fit the form of the gun you would soak the leather in denatured alcohol, and rub by hand every crease and detail you want with the gun in it wet. There is no water so there can not be any rust even if the gun was old worn off blueing . All that rubbing is work. Once that is done you can bees wax the leather starting before the alcohol is gone . This one I made lefty because I am, and has 0 rubbing, because it doesn't need a tight fit . Other than the 2 straps this is one piece of leather. I made the sterling silver buttons too and the stamp of a bear paw on them .
