Just not from the diving board. They frown on that I've learned.

    I've noticed that.
Seems to me their default is worst case scenario.
It's like they're over-insuring themselves against giving people bad advice.
Scare 'em and say go see a doctor RIGHT NOW! Gets them off the hook.
    Turning people into hypochondriacs.

Forgive the off-topic, and I know this is a different order of magnitude, but maybe you'll find it interesting:

Farm animals get sick or injured quite as often as people do.
So with all the animals he has, a farmer sees a lot.
A good farmer needs to observant and become a fairly good amateur veterinarian.
And that skill is worthy of respect.

My Father did his own rough triage. (Excluding things so minor they required no action on his part).

    1) Could be serious without attention, but I can stop it. The critter will do the rest.
Sulfa powder, balms, plasters, a little rough and ready sewing, isolation, etc. Whatever is necessary.

    2) Too serious for me, but recovery possible at reasonable cost. Call the vet.
(The large animal vet, not the pet veterinarian. Big difference). [pun]

    3) No, I've seen that before. Cut the losses right now.
A farmer can't afford to be sentimental.

    Observed him many, many times.

    [EDIT]
Cows giving birth often need help.
Especially if the calf is coming wrong way around.
Watched my Dad reach in to his shoulder and turn the calf around a number of times.
And if the cow was exhausted, tie a rope to the calf's front legs and heave it out.
And that is NOT an easy job.

My grandparents still give me an Easter basket. They made a special trip last night and everything. :boink:
I liked your post just so I could unlike it. Now we know what is wrong with you and it's not your fascination with vodka.
It doesn't hurt that she's easy on the eyes, too.
