Um I may have messed up... I have been changing the oil myself on f150s with zero issues ever since I got my license. This is my first go round with the tacoma. Here is the situation as concise as I can get it.
    1. Watched a few youtube videos so I would be aware of any quirks
    2. pulled my truck into the garage at an angle that it would be easy to work on
    3. went and ate lunch and helped fiancee with some stuff in the house (1.5 hours??)
    4. came out and pulled up Rob Daman's video since I picked up the motivx tools per that video and inserted the drain tool into the oil filter housing after removing the bolt there.
    5. went inside for 15 or so minutes and then began working on installing bed stiffeners
    6. came back to truck after 30 or more minutes had passed and observed that the oil flow had stopped.
    7. removed entire oil filter housing and replaced element and O rings per instructions.
    8. began filling oil (this is where I messed up)
    9. I went ahead and just filled 5 quarts since the truck takes 6.2.
    10. I decided to check the dipstick to see where 5 quarts put this truck.
    11. to my horror the dipstick was covered in oil.
    12. I went to my oil drain container and again to my extra horror picked it up and realized how light it was.
    13. It looks like only half a quart of oil drained even after removing the entire housing.................
    14. so now, if it was full from factory, I may have nearly 11 quarts of oil in my truck.

    How could this have happened???????

You did not drain the oil pan. There is a bolt for the pan in front of the transmission drain bolt. Careful they are easy to mistake for one another

Did you pull the drain plug on the oil pan?

...... Every video I watched showed removing the filter and draining through there, I noticed how low the filter was and just assumed these trucked drained through there. As I said, I am completely new to these.

There is a oil pan that needs drained. Pull the bolt and drain it all, then refill

I'm pretty sure that there are instructions on how to change the oil in the owner's manual.

And! I don't know why a guy that is used to changing oil in an F150 (which definitely has a drain plug) would just assume that the Taco's don't have one.

Yeah the f150 definitely does. I just looked up videos on how to mess with this one and didn't see anything about it so I assumed that.

Don't do this. Drain it all and add put fresh back in. The old oil has contaminated the new oil you put in

At 7:24 in this video, it shows @Rob Daman putting the oil pan drain plug back in, so it implies he removed it to drain the oil pan.

My caliper almost fell off last Monday cause I did not torque the bolts down good enough on Sunday after doing my front brakes. I ended up losing one of the bolts in the middle of my day. Had to take one from where the hitch mounts to the frame.
