I don't think I anyone could have said it better. I can 100% tell you, God's truth, everyone who has ever worked on this Tacoma, with the exception of the one in which I currently have an on going lawsuit with, I have either had at my home dinner table, treated them at a restraunt, provided a meal to all mechanics working the bays while my truck was there, OR in person delivered lunch to all in the bay.

That's about the only way you get your truck treated like it was your own.

You get the tech's to act like a mom and pop, or treat the tech's like they are loved just like a mom and pop!

Anyone ever had a Toyota Master Tech call you from work out of the blue after you dropped your truck off to say thank you?

I have, several times! And guess what, they treat your truck better than their own!

You call ahead the previous day and ask who is working the bay tomorrow. Get up early, drive 20 miles to Billy's Boudin at 7am, pay $50 to buy Boudin Links, and 1 scoop bags of crackling for everyone in the bay. Then make it to the dealership right before they open...

They treat you like family, even had them ask to borrow tools.

    Other than that......

What made you change from Mobil 1? I've used it everything I've driven since 06 and changed it every 5k miles or 6 months. Whatever comes first.

10 years ago I had a totally modified 2008 XB (gen2) & I went to jiffy for oil change (syn) its was around $60 back then
at about 3500 miles into the oil change the oil filter came loose/lost significant amount of oil & blew the motor up.

Jiffy would not accept fault on the matter
claimed that they recommend oil change every 3k miles (sales gimmick at best, bastards)
& stated that's why that happened
really jiffy?....oil filters come loose if you dont change the oil every 3k?
I would never go to jiffy
anytime I drive by one I yell 'jiffy sucks' hahahha

I follow the 5k guide line toyota sets for most of theirs rides for oil change interval
its simple to follow, suggested by the manufacturer (not a 3rd party), & seems to work pretty well from my experience

its instances like the one I described above that motivated me to do all my own maintenance on my autos
nothing against the pro auto mechanics out there, but I have been hurt financially too many times due to human error

Some people do have physical disabilities that dont allow them to crawl around underneath a vehicle as able bodied persons can !!! .These people need places like Jiffy lube or other shops to do this for them

I work for a propane company. We have a customer that had a bunch of piping, etc done. Every time the tech showed up at his house the owner gave him $100 and said lunch is on me today. That tech always does a good job, but I guarantee everything he did got triple checked at that house.

I rode with my daughter to Jiffy Lube to help her, if needed, get her vehicle inspected. NC requires a safety and emissions test. Before we left we tested all of her lights to make sure they worked. At Jiffy Lube I let her do all the talking as I tried to blend in with everybody else. The place was busy and we had to wait about 30 minutes before they pulled her car in but once inside I noticed they opened the hood. We were behind the car we couldn't really see what was happening. A few minutes later the service manager came out and said they had to replace the front passenger side turn signal. I called bullshit and explained to him that we checked all the lights before we got there and the chance of the light blowing during a 3 mile trip were next to none. He offered to put the blown bulb back in the light and prove to me that it was blown. I said please and thanks. Funny thing, they couldn't find the old bulb.

They were trying to charge her $5 to fake replace a good bulb. I do 99.9% of my own maintenance and about 85-90% of the repairs so it's not like Jiffy Lube was ever going to get any of my business however my daughter has since graduated from college and moved out of state. They had a chance to make her a Jiffy Lube customer however they completely blew it over $5. Honestly, I don't see how Jiffy Lube is still in business....

Yup, this is exactly the kind of thing they got busted for years ago on that Dateline NBC investigative story. Can't believe they're still getting away with it.

I hope they used lube when they screwed you. That is completely and utterly despicable.
You can trust some shops to work on your car, but it takes time to research properly and then establish a relationship. Get to know the owner and/or manager. I've heard it is helpful to bring donuts when you take vehicle in for service -- happy mechanics take better care of your car.
The synthetic oil can go at least as far as the conventional you were using previously, all else being equal. I'm sure the RAV4 owner's manual says way more than 3,000 miles oil change interval.

So Toyota engineers/the manufacturer just programmed it that way AND put it in the owner's manual for sh*ts and giggles is what you are saying.

Ok then, so how do you suppose the lay vehicle owner, who is less mechanically minded and sensitive, is supposed to figure this cryptic misinformation supplied to them by the manufacturer?

I went to a Jiffy Lube once years ago when I had a '78 280Z. Usually did my own oil, but didn't have a good place to do it at the time. Next time I tried to do it myself I could not get the drain plug off, and it was slightly stripped so was afraid to force it too much. I drove back up there and told them to get it loose and tighten it properly, and replace it if they strip it any more, and replace the pan if threads are messed up. He had to use an impact but it came off fine.

Several years ago my wife's 4Runner needed a transmission flush, so I went to a local quick-change place (not Jiffy Lube) to get it done. They tried the air filter trick on me. Guy walks into the lobby holding a completely trashed air filter and asks if I want to replace mine. It wasn't even the same filter, and he never indicated that it was mine, so kind of a gray area for sure -- but I can see how the uninformed would fall for it. I just laughed and said no thanks, and that's not my filter.

Now I am so paranoid that I don't even let the dealer do the free maintenance. I used to let them do the tire rotation, but I had them accidentally change the oil even when told not to -- and I had just changed the dang oil. Plus I always have to torque the wheel nuts when I get home anyway.

No matter how poor you think you are with a wrench, you will likely do a better job than any quick change or dealer if you just take your time and follow instructions.

That's nuts. Why do the oil change if you're going to run new oil through the same dirty filter?

I remember when I was 16 years old working in a gas station. I helped out the mechanic on simple stuff. We had a guy come in for an oil change and said just change the oil and don't change the filter. When he paid his bill, he saw 5 quarts of oil on the bill and he went ballistic. He yelled at me and said something about not changing the filter. I told him I didn't. I pulled the filter off, drained it and screwed it back on. That was my 1st experience with the nonsense of changing the filter every other time. Even at 16 years old, I was smart enough to know that leaving 1 quart of dirty oil in there was a bad idea.

    I’m sorry I can’t get passed a $113 oil change.

Did they put oil laced with gold flakes in it or something?

Do they offer an open bar and crab leg buffet while you wait?

    Was it Amsoil?

Synthetics last 10k unless you buy a specific oil and filter rated for longer. Like Amsoil will go 25k or 1 year.
