I feel like it is time to bring this thread back to life!
My vinyl collection is slowly growing. After the first year I have about 200 in the collection.

    Same as everybody else...
I found my old albums recently and bought a turntable. Where do you guys find records? Is there a good online source? I'm thinking estate sales or thrift stores like Goodwill would be good.

I typically go to a record store that is about an hour from my house and they are becoming more popular. Thrift stores can be a good choice, and you can find record any where online from Amazon to record label/band web sites. I use Discog to manage my collection and to get an idea on pricing when I am out looking.

May not work to well for getting to base camp but once you are there you would have the classiest sound system around if you could spin some vinyl while watching the sun set!

A good clean record and nice needle, will eliminate the nasty rice krispie sound. For me it is the whole musical experience, I like the big art work, and listening to full albums front to back. I also like being able to hear all the unfiltered sounds, such as fingers sliding on strings from cord to cord. I find in new digital remastered music the edit that type of stuff out, and It just isn't my style. Plus some times you half to take a leak or get a beer half way through the record, and the whole flipping from A to B side thing gives the perfect intermission during listening sessions.

the rice krispie sound is not necessarily nasty, is it?
it could add something, especially to those old bargain flea market finds from '70s and '80s rare finds on the cheap
as long as they don't skip!

True enough. I will take an original pressing over a repress any day. And the rice krispie sound that comes with it and don't mind it a bit. It does add a little flair to some of the more random records in my collection. Like those old Christmas records, or the Polka. Probably wouldn't be the same if the sound was 100 perfect!

this was what my first turntable looked like in the 80s ... good grief this thing was uber heavy as a brick ... had a metal tape bias recorder too that was cool

I thought this thread would be bigger than it is.

Ive been collecting records for what seems like my entire life.

    Current set up is
    Fisher 500c
    Klipsch Forte II
    Thorens TD 125 MKII

    Mostly rock genre focusing on
    NWOBHM
    private press Power pop
    70s rock
    Psychedelic
and everything that fits between those.

Also have a pretty hefty boogie/soul stash but nowhere close to the thousands of rock related music

Another collector here, been rocking the same Technics SL-D2 for nearly ten years. I've never counted my record collection but it's pretty big - mostly jazz and jazz fusion, organ trio stuff, etc.

Jerry's Records in Pittsburgh is such a cool place!
