I’m curious when a dealership performs warranty or recall services are they not reimbursed by Toyota Corp for the labor and equipment. If this is the case that would be more money flowing through that Toyota dealership hopefully meaning more money.

TLDR: What’s the benefit for a dealership to deny recall work

No. The dealer nor Toyota have to prove anything. They can deny warranty and tell you their reason. It stops there unless YOU think they are wrong and then you take them to court. You pay for your lawyers and expert witnesses and they bring in their army of experts and lawyers. Good luck with that.

MM Act was written to make manufacturers act in good faith, meaning they cant deny a transmission warranty because you changed your head unit.

Yeah, but altering the height of the grille radar sensor by lifting a vehicle, or changing the grille, does change the radar, even if the change is not substantial.

Toyota is not denying the warranty, they are just insisting that it be done with the sensor is it’s original location and height. Other locations and heights may not match with the calibrations they are looking for.

Wouldn't a Tacoma having a pro grill and a lift kinda even things out ? Truck lifted and a lower mount of the sensor on a pro grill should measure close to a stock non pro correct ?

Pro is only higher than an OR (and I assume Limited, SR5, SR, Sport) by an advertised 1". Some folks who have measured both say it's closer to 1/2 or maybe 3/4". Some folks are lifting their trucks a couple of inches to several inches. I know it's splitting hairs but the Pro isn't 4" taller than an OR or anything like that. So with so many variables I don't think it works out.

I work for a ford dealer and if ford is paying for something, recall/warrenty/whatever we have to be careful when dealing with warrenty/recalls on modified vehicles cause if Ford Corp says that we should not have done X Y Z they will charge us back the labor and parts time 10. So if it pays an hour @$130/hr and parts are $500 then they could kick us a bill for $6300.

Yeah warrenty/recall pay is shit, guy next to me found the OEM pads were what was making noise and he only got paid 0.1 hours to determine it was the brake pads and then remove and replace said front brake pads, no diag pay, only paid for 6 minutes of his life.

So since I actually had mine recalibrated after the lift I wonder if I’m going to get any flak for it since it is properly calibrated for its current ride height.

Went to the dealer for my 1 year service. go got the same run around. They set it up for the recall then denied it. I was like, you are the one that told me it had to be done. I don't get how changing out the grill stops them from putting a strip of 3m tape on a sensor. My bigger concern is up the road when it does leak due to them denying my recall then they deny fixing the issue due to the grill change.

It truly does not matter. Stock is what they warranty. We do the same thing. If it's in the as sold condition then we happily warranty it. If a customer makes a change? All bets are off.

Yeah hopefully it evens out in the end, screw evens out, hopefully if works out in the techs favor in the long run.
I love the Ford Fusion airbag recall since you have to remove the dash it pays 2.8 hours and I can do it in about 1.5 now, but other recall for F150 only pays max of 0.4 when Ive found its just easier to pull the whole damn front seats out and work on them instead of doing it in vehicle, I defiantly lose time on that.

You're stating the obvious ….all i'm saying if its with in spec it SHOULD'NT be a problem. I got mine done and i'm lifted with a pro grill so all bets weren't off

I believe they can’t deny a safety recall, if you have an accident and it was caused by a faulty tss, they can be held liable as well. No one signed any documentation were it says that you can’t modify your truck in which is also your property. At least I don’t remember signing any papers stating that..:notsure:
