Finally got my sign from the FCC after an unknown delay. I've been monitoring local repeaters and there's almost zero traffic around here!

Thanks! Trying decide if I want to go General. I'm not sure I can afford another money pit that isn't the truck and I'd want a sweet home base setup!

See if a local club will have you down for field day this summer. I'm sure that will help you make up your mind lol

Got some new parts in today. New speaker for the truck to replace the crappy cb speaker I’ve been using and some so-239’s to build antenna’s with.

UGHH.....so this weekend was spent tearing apart the 19 Tacoma....

I gave up and decided to run the coax under the vehicle along the frame. Need a bit of wire loom to keep it a bit protected.

I think by this weekend she will be ready to go!....just waiting for a @CaliRaisedLed mount for the back which should be here in a couple of days.

The unfortunate thing is that I needed a barrel connector and HRO is shipping it out so should have it tomorrow.

Can't wait to get it all setup and see how it pans out.

If I get some interference, I will be getting some braided connections to ground everything out.

I need HAM help! I tried to make my first TX using a repeater and it's not going through. I can RX the repeater and will hear other talking. I'm 99% sure I have my offset and CTCSS tone set correctly. When I key up and talk, nothing is coming through to my other radio until after I release the key and then I'll either hear static or the repeater broadcast an automatic message? I've tried this at home with both radios near each other then tried a couple miles apart with my wife listening in to see if she could hear me. No one else is responding either. Am I missing something? This is the repeater: https://www.repeaterbook.com/repeaters/details.php?state_id=37&ID=205 and I'm using a Baofeng UV5R and a BF-F8HP.

    Let's do this!

    OK.

    So, what's your rough location?
We've got the repeater location in the link with info.

Have you verified the offset shift? I'm assuming it's like most baofengs that when you TX, the displayed frequency should change from the rx frequency to the tx frequency that the repeater will rx on.

The tone should be straight forward.

What do you have your tx power on?
Are you using the stock rubber ducky antenna?

I'm sure others will chime in as well.

Walkie may not have enough range for repeater? If in range, it's your offset or tone.

So I considered this may be a problem of range. I'm using a 1/4 wave antenna and TX on the high setting (advertised 8w.) Is it definitely possible for me to hear the repeater but not TX to it? My address at home is public which is https://goo.gl/maps/6ncxkfttzTm51QARA

I'm guessing that since I trigger the repeater to do it's automatic message that my settings are correct but I don't have enough TX power to get my voice through. I'm at work right now but I guess I could try driving closer to the repeater and see if it works? Thanks for the help!

Thanks! I did find that and plan on giving that number a call. The email address isn't valid and the webpage doesn't look like it's been updated. I heard via the repeater that they have a net on Thursday's but that won't help me if they can't hear me. There's another club nearby that I'm going to check out that appears to be more active.

Is it an option to go for a drive and maybe find a road up high on a hill and giving it a try? If you're getting a beep or any sound back then you're certainly opening the repeater .

Out of curiosity what are you saying when you TX?

That's definitely an option and I will try it out in the next day or two.

Just been saying my callsign or my callsign followed with some form of "doing a radio check/test." I've had my wife listening in and talking with her via chat at the time of TX to see if she heard me. She's not licensed up yet, but she can listen and text me.
