No just make sure your shocks are long enough or you'll blow them.

This is the part that I have been pondering...

Just how does one "make sure your shocks are long enough"? Talking to other owners? Asking the vendors? While many vendors are knowledgeable, how do you sort the wheat from the chaff? How do you know which vendors (that want to sell you stuff) --OR-- people (that think their setup is the most bitchinest) are
    1. telling you the truth (not necessarily lying, but blowing smoke cuz the don't know, or telling you something they believe to be true and accurate, but may not be)
    2. knowledgeable (i.e. know of what they speak)
Bumpstops will limit compression and protect the shock from getting blown out when the wheel gets stuffed up in the wheel well, correct?

But what limits extension or droop? Isn't it the shock itself? Or is there such a thing as a droop or extension bumpstop too?

    There called limit straps.

And you can take the leaf pack apart down to the main leaf and cycle the suspension to find upper limit and droop

You can find most shocks extended and compressed figures online somewhere. But to figure out what that is you'll have to break down your pack and do some measuring. Basically everything you need to do a shock relocate without relocating the shocks.

Yeah bumpstops will aid in not blowing the shocks, if you want to be conservative you can get bigger bumps. Typically what limits the travel could be shock, brake line or even the leaf if I'm not mistaken. It's typically the shock but you can always add limit straps

Oh I don't either but I've seen it on some peoples rig because they don't get extended brake line. One of the first things I'd suggest when going for a rear lift but I'm assuming ( :fingerscrossed: ) he already did that if he opted for a 4" rear lift

1st gen stock rear shock locations are useless after a lift is installed.
If you get shocks long enough to allow full droop, they won't allow for full compression.
If they allow full compression, then you won't get the droop.
Most opt to run whatever the kit comes with. If you start to wheel more aggressively, then you'll most likely end up doing a shock relocate, which really isn't that hard. But then you also need to relocate the spare tire....
Welcome to the edge of the rabbit hole.

This. Although most won't push their trucks enough for it to be a problem. If you get it close enough with stock mounts, and occasionally bottom or top them out, it probably won't present an issue.

If you want to understand what is going on and if you want to do it right, read this:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ment-for-maximizing-shock-utilization.583280/

    and this:
    https://adventuretaco.com/how-to-to...ning-leaf-spring-cycle-and-mount-positioning/

But that is indeed a rabbit hole. To do it right for me took a couple tries, and ultimately several weeks of my truck on jackstands while I cycled, measured, boxed the frame, ordered custom Kings, and a bunch of other little fiddly shit that you don't think about like rerouting the exhaust and replacing the BPV.

It sure is a rabbit hole. That's why I have just stuck with the OME suspension and lucky I haven't blown a shock yet after fully flexing many times.

I'm going to order some All-Pro Axle Relocation plates in a few days. If anyone else is interested and wants to pick up from Boulder/Longmont/Lafayette (possibly Centennial) area, I can add a set for you so you can save on shipping. Let me know ASAP.

Considering a move to CO, job would be in Denver. I'd like to live a bit outside the city but not have a long commute. I need a garage and some space to work on my truck and motorcycles. Any suggestions?

    Brighton maybe?

The second you have to use I25/I70 there is only LONG (timewise) commuting.

    Stuff. Also things.
36/270 from Boulder/Longmont isn’t gonna be much better either.

I think you’re fighting competing expectations a bit if you want to not be in the city but still avoid a long commute.

Yup.....we have to get shit done at the house and I have been putting it off for months. Supper is "add on" with friends.

After 26 years of marriage, at some point I have to cave in and suck it up.

However, after this weekend I'm in for any "wrenching" parties that happen.

Zach...from a fellow "Masshole".....it all depends on where you want to live.

Commute times from Boston to wherever you lived (Chelmsford for me) are vastly different on where you want to GO and GET BACK to.

I live in Monument CO. I do the daily drive to Centennial apt and back three days a week depending on working virtually.

There are TONS of areas outside of Denver "proper" that work.

With that being said. Denver traffic stinks. Not like Boston traffic so you will probably feel pretty damn good about it.

Fridays stink. I always take alt routes home as the MEGA CAMPERS are trying to get out of the city.

Don't look at mileage....look at DRIVE TIMES!

Anyhow I make the 40 mile one way trip up and back...yeah 80 mile total but I spend WAY less time than back in Mass.

GO SOX....what the hell happened to us this year?....

    :)
