    Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.
    While the old oil is draining, I throw in the .5 qt I don't need and 'flush' it through and that also drains out.

    Then fill with the remaining 5.5 qts (some into the new filter so it isn't completely dry when the engine is started).

    Its complete overkill to fill the filter before installation, its not a diesel. If toyota was concerned about the filter holding its oil after shutdown they wouldn't have mounted it upside down. Theyre trying to help you change your own oil by letting it drain

    This. I wait until it is just a faint drip of old oil and run the .5 in there.... Gets more of the old stuff out that could be stuck in places.

    No issues filling oil filter here.... If you open the box, flip the oil filter upside down, pour oil down the center until it is level with the top....then wait a minute it will absorb thru the internal paper element and the level will drop, it actually takes topping it off 2-3 times to fill it....(try it once and time how long it takes the oil to seep through it)...it isn't that difficult to install as there is plenty of room between battery and oil filter mount to lower it in open end up and then flip it and thread it on....very little, if any spills into the trough as you screw it on....i usually have a gatorade bottle under the spigot of the trough anyway during removal of the old filter....

    I won't argue that either way is right, i learned it way back in the day and have done it since and will continue to do so.... my original comment was made out of curiosity, to be honest i didnt expect that so many people did not do it....

    That’s just the regular one you get at the stealership when you tell them your motor. I thought oversized OEM like this one:

    This is weird. Every time I have changed my oil it only takes 5 qts to get it up to the fill line on dipstick... and that's letting it drain completely. Now you have me wondering lol

    King, TC +2"LT, 35's, Aluminum this and that.
    I buy Amsoil single quarts by the case since that's the best deal for that. 5.5 quarts an oil change, and the leftover .5 gets put in the cup holder of the rear passenger door in case I need a top off.

    Nah, the filter is way less restrictive than the oil passages in the engine. I bigger filter would be even less restrictive than a smaller one
