Dealerships have a 10 day period to change anything on a contract. If 10 days have passed, it is set in stone and they can’t do crap to change it

Potential legalities aside, no legitimate business should ever contact the customer after a sale is completed to ask for more money. What a poor way to conduct yourself. If a mistake like that was made on an invoice, that burden should fall on the salesman/business owner.

I'm with others in this thread, OP. Tell them to piss up a rope.

In my case of my 2013 Tacoma TRD Sport, I traded in my 2012 M3 and a 2009 Tacoma and I did not owe any sales tax. So maybe he was thinking that. Who knows, but you got away with it. All sales are final, unless they refund purchase price. If so, I would tell him the price just went up.

Pay the damn taxes, be honest! You will feel better in the long run and because you owe it. If you get by on this and they eat the taxes it will come back and bite you in the ass. Carma is a bitch and expensive. I too learned the hard way too. They may look out for you in any future dealings.

Bet the dealership an expensive case of decent beer that they can't prove to a neutral 3rd party you owe the money. Then get smashed with them and wake up naked somewhere.

10 days have passed since the contract was signed by the OP. It appears that clause is not valid in this case.

It may have been mentioned but what state is this? Sounds exactly like the finance guy I dealt with in Georgia near Atlanta.

Agree, but a verbal agreement is very hard to prove without recording it. It easily becomes a he said and he said or never said.
The writing of N/A on the paper is easy to prove.

He's going to pay the taxes and/or spend more than the tax liability in legal fees.

I don’t know the answer, don’t know enough about the way this works, but according to a friend who does a lot of selling contacts, if this had happen in Colorado, the dealership would have a hard time with over riding a sign contact, so time will tell.

If I was the OP, I would contact a lawyer and see what she/he says, because that would be the best way to answer the question.

The car is actually registered in OP's issue here. He bought out the car after lease - financing the residual.
I think the issue might be the dealer registering the sale [paying the tax] to then change the lienholder on the title.
    **
The posts and input has been fascinating.
    **
I agree you should simply ignore the dealer. You should shop for other financing in the interim in case they want to unwind the transaction.

It ain't mutual mistake - dip shit at the dealer put n/a. Perhaps the dealership wanted to pay it for you because you are a great customer....

I think the rubber hits the road when you want the title - lienholder may be wrong - but how can dealer give new finance company a good title...

I say the dealer has already eaten it.
