If you plan on keeping the truck, a regear will definitely solve this. Will also make it much more pleasant to drive even without the boat attached. It's not exactly cheap, but everyone agrees it is worth every penny.

    No offense taken.

So from that video, would it have been better if he had a gas motor and why?

I would be interested in seeing a lighter truck pull the same boat in that situation. 7000 lbs of truck doesn't seem to be helping him, unless his goal is digging to china. And its not like that's a heavy boat.

For sure, and the heavy fueling right from dead stop isn’t helping.
His truck is probably closer to 8000 lbs. Mine is 7850 lbs with full fuel tank, DEF tank, empty cab. Lucky for the new generation HD diesels have a locker of some sorts to help with situations like this.

Now I’m hungry for some Chinese. Thanks for that.

The diesel dude apparently does not have LS or a locker making his truck effectively 2 wheel drive. All that torque and no way to use it!

Skip the Chinese, go for Thai :)

I suppose a locker might help. The weight distribution on pickups in general is kind of shitty, but especially bad with a heavy diesel engine up front and an empty bed. Wet grass is suddenly a force to be reckoned with.

What? You are seriously clueless. There are less moving parts and more usable power in a 2wd vs 4wd. Of course that’s extremely insignificant. There is no reason he needs 4wd to pull his boat up his paved driveway. A wet boat ramp might be a different story.

Probably not. As Im sure you're aware, a lot of diesel owners for whatever reason think that massive diesel trucks are the best at absolutely everything, especially off road. If I had a nickel for everytime I saw a stupid Marine get stuck in the sand with his massive truck on 20 inch wheels...

Amen to the Thai. I have been tearing up the Indian food lately as well (dot, not feather).

Some of those motors are heavy! Cummins tips the scales at 1100 lbs fully dressed if I remember correctly. The DM is 835 lbs, and the last big block that GM offered was the 8.1L and that beast is 761 lbs.

I buried one of my Dodge diesels once. I had to be pulled out by Clifton Slay (poison spyder customs) with Bombshell Betty. Damn that was embarrassing.

I went from a nice half ton Silverado on 285s to the 3/4 ton Duramax on 305/70/16s. Both trucks had lockers in the rear and open in the front. I had a big heavy 20 foot aluminum boat. I always Beach launch on the Columbia River and that half ton Silverado was a breeze pulling the boat out. Duramax was an absolute pig in the sand. My old Cummins was no better.

My current boat weighs 3200 lb fully loaded including the trailer. My 3rd gen v6, 6mt Tacoma pulls my boat just fine. My only issue is I have to use 4 Low pulling it off of any boat ramp.

MMMmmm Indian. There's a place in KC that's technically a buffet, but the owner keeps bringing food out of the back and offering it around. You don't get a chance to get up for a second plate before you've eaten so much you hate yourself. Its the BEST.

That sounds right on the weight of the cummins. Inline engines always seem to be heavier than their V friends.
