When my modified 07 Tacoma...umm "spontaneously combusted"...a few years back I had to purchase a new 2015 Tacoma. To this day I am still kind of jealous and wish that the new 3rd Gen was available at the time with the very much improved body style and IMO a great interior redesign.

I have been considering switching to a newer Tacoma and just wandering everyone's thoughts. I am loving a lot of the customized options out the look wise for the 16+, but keep holding back because my 15 taco has just to much of my sweat blood and tears labored into it and just not sure if a 3rd is really worth it yet lol.

Now to my question and purpose of this thread, Toyota has finally seemed to start adding and ultimately catching up technologically in regards to gadgets and features since the 3rd Gen release. So, are people satisfied with these improvements with their Tacoma's or do you still find yourself wanting/disappointed with what Toyota is offering?

Thanks for any feedback and sorry if this is thread was in the wrong place but figured since I was asking mostly about 3rd Gen stuff it would fit in here.

I have not owned Tacomas in the past, but my twos son have. One had a couple 1st Gens and the other had a couple 2nd Gens and they absolutely loved them. I've owned a couple of F-150s which I really liked but they wouldn't fit into my garage. That being said, I love my Tacoma and if I had to do it all over again, I'd still buy it. As far as technology is concerned, Toyota seems to take a slow methodical approach in introducing the latest and greatest tech to the Tacoma and that's fine with me. My only complaint is the Entune system for all practical purposes is worthless to me. I'd much rather have Apple Carplay but that will have solved with 2020 model year. I can always swap out the head unit if I want it bad enough.

If you're still wanting to upgrade, I'd wait until at least 2020 model year or after.

17 SR 2.7 5speed here and my only request would be that Toyota offer some more rugged/offroad options for lower trim levels. If they had a rear locker option or a bed delete (like the aussies get so they can mount a tray) I would be all over that. the 2.8 D4D diesel would be nice too hah

I also had an 07 that spontaneously combusted.... I had to get one at the start of this year, I was going to go with another 2nd Gen but couldn’t find what I was looking for so ended up with a new 2018. It’s a very nice truck, I like it a lot but if I hadn’t of been in the position where I needed a new truck I defiantly wouldn’t have upgraded from my 07. There’s nothing wrong with it, I just really enjoyed my 2nd Gen and appreciated the simplicity of it, and lack of features. Like stated in the previous post, I’d hold off for a 2020 if you really want to upgrade. That’s what I would have done if I didn’t need something as quick as I did. Another thing test drive as
many as you can, all the different models, manual, auto everything. There a different drivetrain than the 2nd Gen, some like it and some are less than impressed. A lot of people favor the manual, and a lot of auto guys wish they went manual is the consensus I gather on here.

Trueeee but I got mine for 23.5k out the door, 6 foot bed, shorter cab and a manual trans hah I figured if I was going to dump money into it with upgrades, I might as well buy the lowest spec because why pay for stuff I was going to remove down the road :amen:

    Feel exactly the same way.
When it was released, there wasn’t enough there to make upgrading worth it.
3 years later, I’m still like it’s cool, but I wouldn’t have bought one if if I didn’t have to.

After market locker, 2.5 coilovers, and even then you’re still under the OR sticker price by miles.

    Got mine for 24 :D

I’m going big three as well. Mainly for the aftermarket support.

Yeah I am thinking I am just gonna wait until something happens with my current truck before upgrading or whatever. It is just I see those 3rd Gen tacomas running around everywhere here and it always keeps me on edge about getting one.

Right now I am happy with what I have so guess I should just stay where I'm at.

    Spoiler Alert!!! :p

    too many to list
The only improvement I would like to see on a tacoma is a coil sprung solid axle in the front, a coil sprung rear axle, and a manually selectable transfercase lever. E lockers front and rear on the TRD OR and TRD Pro models. I dont care about TSS, blind spot monitors, crawl control, multi terrain select, or any "technology" that they are putting into these trucks. Its a truck. If I wanted that stuff, I would buy a car.

In the original version it goes like “and his momma cries...she looked outside and saw the fender well shape she knew damn well it was a 2008 in the ghettooooo”

Been driving Toyota pickups since 1988. Maybe 5 different ones in all those years. Not once have I had a bad experience with any of them. Not saying Toyota is perfect, but pretty darn close. Loved my 2005 TRD OR, now loving my 2016 TRD OR. The BIG 3 have nothing on Toyota IMO. But then again I have been wrong before.
