The messed up bumper and pin stripes doesn't matter. they have to repaint it anyway. Go to KBB imput your truck and go with the high end of the scale. also add on the cost of the shell and any aftermarket items you have on it

Well I wouldn't settle for less than what it was worth before the damage, that's for sure. Honestly I'd expect a great trade and a great deal on a new truck for having to deal with the whole situation. At the end of the day it's an accident, but as others said I'm sure they have insurance to cover this stuff.

At the very least, it sounds like you are dealing with human beings at that dealership.

We’ve all heard the stories of dealers that were total d*cks even when they were at fault.

I’m willing to bet it fell on the hitch which in turn bent the frame. If the bed gaps are off that’s a sure sign. Props to OP for handling this so well. If was my truck I would push for them to buy it at fair price & if you go new to get a fair discount. Best of luck.

Really, OP you should get top dollar for your trade-in because it wasn't like you wanted to get rid of it. This decision was made for you. also all the after market parts you want to keep they should swap them over for you

Wow, I would insist on warranty on their dime and have the frame, axle and suspension carefully inspected. That's a hard fall from standing height, most lifts are 6ft up. On a side note, why did the tech not have a support stand under the bumper... common practice with a pickup w/ a loaded bed.

    Best of luck OP

OP I’d walk away from that kind of damage.

If the dealer doesn’t offer you what you want then walk up to the GM, get his business card and leave without a handshake. A lawyer will have a really nice time on their dime.

Yeah I think they should trade it in - at least a used equivalent for yours. They aren’t meant to be dropped. Maybe it can be fixed fine....maybe not....

I still think those types of 2-post lifts are death traps. I realize they are common these days, and have some advantages in terms of access, but damn......

People got tired of the effort needed to put a hydraulic cylinder down in a hole, and then went to 4-post lifts. Now these 2-post lifts are the most popular solution, but it’s less than ideal. I never heard of cars tumbling off lifts all the time until these 2-poster became so commonplace. Cars falling off these things has been a problem, at least in the UK.

    Reserected from the dead.
    Didn't read all pages.

I don't think it fell off the lift. The rear pads were too close to the balance point of the truck.

Tge truck pivoted. The front went up and the back end dropped. The hood hit the top safety stop/ cross bar. The wheels or hitch would have never hit the ground.

It see sawed off the rear lift arms.

I have a lift. I think about this all the time.

How could the guys at the dealership have missed the cab-bed gap and cab damage? What else are they not telling you?

I thought the same thing but he posted more pictures of where the cap hit the cab of the truck, something on the rear end definitely hit the ground to make the cap smack the can then slide back again.
