How bad is my frame rust? 2004 Tacoma double cab. Never had the recall done. I live in northern Utah so roads get way salty in the winter. I’ve done my best at taking care of it but unfortunately I can’t speak for the previous owner. The rear is definitely worse than the front. What do you think?

7-8/10. Showing age for sure but appears no pitting or major flaking. Good 2 go

I would take a wire wheel to it to knock the rust off, and treat it with a rust inhibitor.

Also, spray Fluid Film in the holes of the frame.

Me personally, I would start knocking around with a welders hammer. Only got a few months left on the frame coverage for 04's, if yours hasnt already expired. Either way, definetly wire brush, grind etc whatever you can then prime and paint. Wait a few days for the paint to cure then hose it down with fluid film.

I'd say just fine. 7 out of 10 rating.

Clean that up and paint it, I did parts of my frame that were a little worse and it looks new in the repainted spots.

Mine has already expired. Besides I talked to one of the guys at my local dealer and he was saying that in order for Toyota to replace the frame, it’s gotta be in pretty bad shape.

Knock the loose rust off with a wire brush. Then go get some Ospho from Lowe’s. Follow the instructions. Topcoat with Rustoleum a satin or semi-gloss rattlecan.

Yes. I guess that probably answers my question. I’ll look into getting some. Thanks for pointing it out!

they are cheap and super easy to install.

Fame looks great actually. Some of the break line brackets and small items are a little crusty but they should still be fine for a while.

Also, what is up with that random broken ground on your frame?

I’ve always wondered that too. This truck had 2 owners before me so who knows what they did. The reason I haven’t just taken that off is in case it was something important and someone would finally point it out.
