Well Im 65 and have been playing with car stereo since I was about 16. I never did any of this professionally and in reality I have not had a car stereo that I have even been interested in changing anything other than maybe upgrade OE speakers in my Rams for maybe 20 years other than my Jeeps but even that was not much as it was open to the elements and bounced around off-road . I am working off of memory for the most part and some refresher off the net now but most is what I used to read and do before internet . Hell this AVH-601EX is the first HU I have bought in years mainly for the bluetooth for phone calls and still can't figure out what I think is basic things . I now feel like my Mom and Dad did with vcrs[/QUOTE]

    I'm impressed!
I know exactly what you mean about new technology. I had my last cell phone for 7 years and I very recently replaced it with the top model Samsung. Now I'm getting audible notifications from my cell phone and I haven't yet figured out what its notifying me of. Lol. I just haven't taken the time yet to learn more about it is all, but it's still funny to me.

Im trying to figure out how come every time I text or receive a text the HU switches to blue tooth and starts playing musing from my iphone. I have never put any music on my phone and I have to manually switch the HU back to FM each time . I even deleted the only app that I found music on the iphone. It don't happen in my Ram or Envclave so I know its the hu. Since deleteing the music app I just get silence with the screeen that shows all of the controls like forward rev , pause and still have to switch it back after each text

I just don't even go there anymore. The head unit gets its input from either USB drives or CDs. Nothing is paired to the HU nor will it be. No radio even. It's way cool to be able to change functions of certain equipment from a phone, but as a source, naah. The dumber the vehicle the better

I can understand it muting the existing FM while I am making a Phone call but every time I send or receive a text it switches to what was music ( before I deleted the library ) and is now just silence until I manually choose HD Radio again then as soon as someone texts me its back to square one . It seems to stupid to not have a cure for it. I neve have used an ipod or phone for music

Wiring out of phase or flipping phase on a processor, (common for subwoofer) is something you would do on a passive system. Delay is used on active because you have the ability to delay HF for time alignment to LF with bi-amplification, where you do not on a passive system because delay would affect the entire spectrum. Changing polarity on a passive is just an attempt to more closely align HF and LF because 180 off might end up closer to alignment depending on the order of the crossover. This is part of why active is preferred, you have much more control to not only align HF and LF, but to attenuate for the difference in power each requires to attain balanced response between the two, and you're no longer forced to use EQ to compensate for huge dips where the two meet.

Passive two way and three way systems end up with a lot more correction (undesirable). The only other way to help the situation is to fudge the crossover points and slopes on HF and LF so they overlap somewhat. It might smooth the response, but it also means you have the same frequency coming from two sources at different times on the same channel, and you want to minimize that.

So, if you're going component, you should go bi/tri amp to get the full benefit. The problem with that is $$$ and that's mostly why passive comp systems exist.

I found several different possible solutions for the problem you are experiencing. The screenshots tell the specific possible solutions that you can try.

Very accurate and explained very well. I'm currently working on an "article" about car audio and I'd like to know if I can copy the excellent information you wrote and put it in my "article"? The sole purpose is just to share information on this forum.

Thanks hotboatrod. I turned off anything I think could do it. I will see if it worked in a couple hours.

Totally. These days though passives are becoming less relevant when using external amplification. You can get a good, small full-featured DSP for $150 anymore and amp channels are cheap. Lots of head units (ex Pioneer) have a great deal of processing built-in. If you're installing an amp anyway, considering that you have to pay for, make space for, mount, and wire passive crossovers one could make a case that active processing won't be much more work - at least in the install phase.

fullsizeoutput_3e5.jpg That didn't work hotboatrod. I guess its not cell data its blutooth that its using . The music seems to prepackaged on my phone. I have to figure out what app is playing it and get rid of it . If it was not a matter of just hitting a button each time I'd leave it but ya shut it off on the HU but its still playing on the phone till ya remember how to shut it off. Then someone else texts you and its do it all over again. I googled a lot and have not found a good answer

AAHAA! Found a setting on the HU that says " Bluetooth Audio", Just for the hell of it I turn it to OFF figuring phone calls would probably have no audio too. I first tried to text and it had no effect on the music I was listening too, thats good. Well thats great now I wonder if I can hear a phone call too and about that time the phone rang and bingo it worked. Everything I googled talked like it was a combination of things to do to get a compromise but no one mentioned Blue tooth audio which makes sense if I knew where it was in the million option menu or what sequence of buttons it too to find it . Glad I figured it out befre Pioneer got to hear how dumb I can be. Like I said its been a while since I played with this stuff.

Sorry for the hijack , I'll shut up now:cheers:

If you want to refer to things I’ve written in some kind of write up that’s fine. It’s not like we all don’t do it with google search info all the time right?

Also, these exist and I’m dying to install one! But $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and my current stuff works fine. Still...

Ya, those VXi-s are pretty pimp! Spendy though. Can't bridge channels either which is a bummer. One of the guys in our local car audio group just bought one for his 718 Cayman...brand spankin' new and the first thing he did was rip out the interior

Dayton dropped a $150 4x8 a few months ago  - just stupid cheap for a full-featured DSP.

I'll be doing the same at some point. It's on the short list but I can't justify any toys at the moment - especially when I have a few DSPs sitting here already. Also hoping they'll make the remote where it can be used as a bass knob. For some reason they haven't added that, but they're doing firmware updates so there's hope yet.
