Considering a Can-Am spyder of some sort. I really like the base rally models, but was wondering if anyone on here had any opinions on any of them. The better half may ride in the back from time to time, still pondering that. That decision would drive what model to choose. Thanks!

    Yes. Outlander 450.
it starts every time, couple things are annoying. It has a maintenance light that you have to take in to the dealer to clear it. Power band is on the top end, so it basically has to spin up to actually feel like its got some power. The Yamaha starts from idle up and you can feel it pulling. Also Can-Am doesnt have any mufflers you can add to reduce the sound. Most other ATVs have a add on you can cut a lot of the noise down. Not really a major problem just something annoying to me. Also has a whine like a turbo when running. You can literally hear it coming down the road.

OK but these are ATV's, not the Spyder which would have a different power plant.

Hence the questions, so I guess the engines as compared to Yamaha and Honda are subpar. Anything else about actually riding them that people don't like?

A Honda atv engine go a can am is not a comparison. Can am makes power while Honda is reliable

Anything preventing you from getting a real motorcycle? I know these are good if you are older, have balance issues or any injuries, but otherwise why not go with a two-wheel? More options that way

I know a guy with a Spyder, he likes it. I mean it’s a bike you don’t have to balance so if you want that they’re fun, I’ve only rode it once. He hasn’t had any issues with it that I know of beyond breaking a bit of the front end due to his own error. The ACE engine in the Spyder and the new smaller one has almost nothing in common with the ATVs. From my understanding it’s somewhat like the Skidoo version which is one of the better rated sleds out there.

As a kid that grew up around farms and still work in Ag, everyone has a favourite ATV brand. I would ignore 90% of those comments especially since the off road and on road products are different divisions within the former BRP chain. IMHO, since everyone here is giving one, If you really want a good cheap quad don’t buy Honda or Yamaha. Suzuki or CFMoto will sell you twice the machine and almost half the cost. Hold up well too.

I totally disagree. Suzuki king quads and most of there line up is belt driven like a can am. Worthless when wet. Ever see a shaft driven Honda being hauled back to camp? I haven’t. I’ve hauled plenty of can am’s and Suzuki’s back to camp due to went slipping belts. Sad when they won’t climb there self out of a creek bank due to a wet belt. Honda’s warranty is second to none from what I’ve been told. All I’ve ever owned. King quad my dad had was junk. Yamaha rhino was garbage. Both traded back into a Honda. He’s now riding a 18 Honda rubicon just like mine. 1000 miles between the two have been flawless

If I could attach a video I would. Four door Chevy dmax on bald May pop 35’s with a fuel cell in the bed stuck up to the center caps at the bottom of a hill in the rain. Rubicon snatched it twice and drug it in 4wd a good 1/4” mile uphill. That’s reliability

That’s fine, you can completely disagree. I don’t own a quad right now so I don’t really care lol. I figuratively have no dog in that fight. My point was that everyone has a favourite brand and you’ve illustrated that perfectly by claiming that everything else is garbage while your brand is amazing, and that’s fine. As long as you’re happy. That being said your opinion on ATV brands doesn’t help OPs decision on buying a product Honda doesn’t even make a version of.

Also true. Just warning him. Can ams warranty is known garbage. Can’t imagine it would be much different from an ATV to a spyder

Probably not but warranty is also heavily dealer specific. What’s painful at one might be easy at another. Local long term reviews might help him with that.
