New 2019 DC TRD OF, replaced my 2016 XP

    Just sold my 2016 XP to go back into a TRD Off-Road. I used to own a 2014 TRD OF so I thought I'd share some notes on all three vehicles.

    2014 TRD Off Road DC
    - Engine was awesome.
    - Transmission felt songy and would shift at weird times on the highway.
    - Suspension was amazing for a 4x4. I could throw this thing into corners like a car.
    - Interior quality was lacking (seats hurt my back) and the grey was just ugly.
    - The electronics were severely outdated even when I bought the truck in 2014.

    2016 XP (Fancy SR5) DC 4x2
    - Engine always had a weird tapping noise that sounded like bent connecting rods. Dealership would say it was supposed to sound that way due to the air intake plenum.
    - Transmission was horrendous. Shift points were terrible, and the thing felt spongy. Dealership repeated over and over that Toyota admitted there was an issue, but would not take action.
    - Suspension was the worst I've ever had on a truck (I've owned many). Bounced people all over the place.
    - Interior was awesome. Toyota really did a great job on the 3rd gens!
    - This truck had the exact same stereo as my 2014...

    2019 TRD Off Road DC
    - Engine feels and sounds much better than the 2016. I know it's the same engine, but Toyota had to have have tweaked something.
    - Transmission shifts so much better in this thing. Dealer said the rumor is that the newer software has made some difference but Toyota will most likely recall at some point in the future.
    - Suspension RULES! Light years better than the SR5. Tight in corners, doesn't bounce over bumps, so much smoother.
    - Interior is even better in the 2019 with the leather seats!
    - Haven't played with the Entune too much yet, but I will say that the premium sound is way better than the SR 5. I actually have bass now...

    Interested if anyone else has already upgraded to a newer gen 3 from a 2016 and have had similar experiences.

    There are already TSB's for the transmission.

    I have not upgraded yet but I am really considering it. My family needs have changed and my '16 AC is just starting to be an issue. I usually keep trucks for 5+ years so I'm still not sure but this post is helping lol..

    I was the same way, but I got lured in 2016 by that sexy interior, and this time just wanted back in the Off Road. No idea what I was thinking...

    Weird thing too is that I had a 2017 OR that had all sorts of small things going with it. My 2018 is a freakin gem though.

    I'm with you on the suspension of the 2019 OR... Feels great around corners yet it feels like i'm sitting on a plush cloud. People look at me funny when I say it's more comfortable than my 2017 CR-V. You really felt every crack and bump with that thing and going through dips/over bumps was jarring compared to the Taco OR.

    The 2019 off road is not spongy like the second gen? I was considering the pro to avoid that but maybe I'll consider an off road again

    I had both 1st and 2nd Gen Off Road's, this one has the smoothest ride of all of them.

    Never had a 2nd gen, but I thought the stock suspension was pretty spongy. Soaked up bumps well, but there was a lot of body roll and dive. Cushy ride though.
