Mines been through 3 Indiana winters with plenty of ice, snow and salt slung all over it...still works like new. Never sprayed anything on it, don't plan to.

The Bed Step is made by AMP Research and sold to Toyota. You can buy it from Toyota or from several automotive supply warehouses. Amp Research part number 75317-01A. I don't know how Toyota handles the warranty but if you buy it from Amp it has a 5 year guarantee

I’m old and fat so I love my step. Plus I got it off Craigslist for $50!

Huh? Why in heck would you spray crap like WD40 or other chemicals on the bed step?

Plus the whole point of the step is to stay down until you're done using it, when you then tap it with your toe and raise it back up. That's how mine's worked since day one.

Man I hate having to explain the obvious.

The step sits right behind the rear wheel. What do you think got kicked into it every time you drive? What is it? No! The answer is water and dust. All day everyday. All those linkages and knuckles and spring aren’t sealed so they seized up in no time. That’s when I tried used wd40 to keep the water off but that didn’t keep the dust off.

I think I would use it. Not as young as I used to be and my knees are shot.

Instead of acting like a condescending know-it-all *maybe* might consider that other people have had different experiences than you have?

I installed my bed step two summers ago and it works just as perfectly now as it did on day #1. It gets hosed off when I occasionally wash off my truck but that's not too often. No other maintenance, and I don't recall any recommended maintenance from the install instructions.

FWIW, there's not a spring per-se in the Toyota version, so perhaps the issues you're having are specific to the model you chose.

Edit - adding to this post 33 months later - my Toyota bed step still continues to work perfectly.

Technically you maybe correct since the part is a carry-over from the 2nd Gen that’s perfectly compatible with the 3rd Gen. My 2017 has the bed step and I use it all the time because with the tail gate down and your hands full from loading and loading you can’t use your arms so that lower bed step becomes very useful. As far as aesthetics, that’s obviously subjective.

Even though my knees are fine, it's the best darn accessory I've put on my truck. Highly recommended.

I'm not anti-Bed Step, I have one and appreciate it greatly.

When I made that post back in 2016, they didn't make a 3rd Gen specific bed step, even the one sold by Toyota was the 2nd Gen version (Amp Research P/N 75307-01A)

Sometime after I bought mine, Amp started offering the 3rd Gen Specific model (75317-01A) I haven't examined one, but I would assume that it is like all the other models...The cast aluminum articulating sections are all the same and the mounting bracket hidden under the truck is what differs from brand to brand, model to model. At one time I was going to fab up a bracket out of 3Al/2.5V to have the step ride higher and tighter to the bumper, but I guess I got used to it and it doesn't bother me enough to change it.

The truck is lopsided without the step as there is an exhaust on the passenger side only. I notice better symmetry with the step.

Wish I had one, getting in and out of the bed is a PITA.

I use mine pretty regularly, but sometimes still use the wheel/tire method from time to time.

Just ordered one due to putting on Weatherguard Toolbox. Looks like a nice bed step! We will see.

I use mine all the time, don’t even know that it’s there until I need it. No squeaks or rattling at all. 32DFFE90-48E1-4FFB-9268-D75BD088BAE0.jpg

Anyone got a pic of the AMP 3rd gen specific step in the up position?

Yep, if I remember correctly this is the Toyota branded one but I believe that Amp is the manufacturer for the Toyota one.
