Transfer Case Leak

    So the "new" 48 mile T case I had put into the truck started leaking. Glad I noticed it was a decent leak too. Crawled under truck and noticed fresh oil above the fill hole right about the rear extension housing. I also noticed some from the junction of the transmission and t-case but this looked dusty and older. Intuition said oh its blowing back I have to replace the seal in the front of the case crap. This would of been a trip back to dealer so fourth and so on. So I mull over it awhile and go back out and crawl under the truck. Its quiet out the kids in bed and there is no traffic on the road and I hear this consistent popping sound like a little bubble constantly popping. For the hell of it I grab the 12mm socket and torque down on the extension housing bolts and the second one stops the bubbling noise.

    Have I found it I don't know, I'll grab some more T-case oil and just monitor for fresh leaks.

    I re-torqued all the bolts to 12Nm 106inlb from someplace I drudge up the torque specs.

    Should I re-RTV seal the flange at some point or consider it good if it does not show leaking?

    Also this has been beaten down quite a bit but how can Toyota tell 75W-90 has been instead of the 75W LF fluid they recommend?

    I could only imagine the knucklehead who pulled it from the scrap yard tried taking those bolts out instead of the drive shaft flange bolts. It had not been leaking prior to that maiden voyage that it decided to hit a telephone pole or so says the scrap yard picture. Entune must of been too distracting.

    Wonder why it was not venting through breather hose, I have to check that out now I guess also. Anyone know where breather hose terminates? Heard behind bell housing down firewall.

    I pulled the top vent hose off not the actuator vent and got a pffft. So pressure is building up.

    The previous owner had warranty work denied because of abuse on the transfer case skid plate (not the actual case see prior posts from me). Could it have built up so much pressure that it evacuated the oil and ended up grenading his case or at least causing the actuator to not move properly?

    I do not want to mess with the case and I might just run another hose until I try and settle with toyota corporate and get this other case warrantied. It will be interesting it its a faulty or clogged breather hose.

    Unlikely to be a clogged hose, IMO. Maybe the breather. Or maybe it's a one-way like the rear diff, for whatever reason. I'd run another line and call it a day.

    BTW, you need a mirror to see where that breather terminates, IIRC. I couldn't personally get a visual of it without one, if memory servers me. Been a year now, though..

    I can see them from passenger wheel well. Move splash guard and look at top of bell housing. I’ll just try and gently blow into the tcase one see if I meet resistance.

    Is it a check valve in that body?
