I may badge mine as an SC5, SC4, SC3, SC24, or the like.

SC for Sports Cart (from the following old Toyota truck ad), plus “South Carolina” ...

Saw the thread, and had to add mine to the count. Bought this old lady in Roseville, CA about a month ago. 2.7L manual 4wd. The PO was convinced it was a TRD (he was legitimately ignorant about Tacomas, and it does have stickers). Very cool that these originals are getting a little acknowledgement in the community. I bought this because in '97 VT went to an OBD based emissions testing system for annual inspections. Having a '95 makes it easy to pass inspections, but I sure would love to be able to hook up a Scangauge.

It didn't help that a "Toyota expert" had been there to look at it before me, and told him '95 was the first year for the TRD. Apparently, the previous previous owner was a "Toyota mechanic", and who the heck knows what that guy said. I bet he's the one who put the stickers on.

They are very well done stickers.

Maybe you’re right about the scangage compatibility part, but your truck definitely has OBDII. All tacoma’s do, even though it wasn’t mandated until 97. Your smog guy doesn’t need to know this obviously. Bitchin truck, the black looks really good!

What in the hell are they talking about?
Must have misunderstood what they said & “filtered” it through his own filter/wishes.

    218k.

After a little research, I have hope. I had figured the 1995 Tacomas would have OBDI only, but I guess they were built close enough to '96 that OBDII was included. My smog guy is also my mechanic, so he'd love to hear that it's OBDII compatible (anyone tried a scanguage?). He wouldn't punish me on inspections. He stopped doing that many beers ago.

I will be in a few weeks. I bought it during a visit to my sister's and it's parked there until I go back out for a bachelor's party this month. Then I'll be roadtripping home.

I don’t see why it wouldn’t work! The receptacle is by your right knee under the dash cowling when you’re in the captains seat. My good friend who’s a mechanic kept insisting it wasn’t OBDII, I guess it’s one of the few things Toyota adopted early. I can monitor most of the regular PIDs on mine using a $40 bluetooth OBD reader and an app on the phone. How’s the frame look? What’d you pay for the truck if you don’t mind me asking?

Also, I’m happy to say that even my non-CA emission truck passed CA smog two weeks ago. I doubt you’d have a problem

I talked the seller down to $3500 (and she isn't home yet, so the price will keep going up). I know it wasn't the best deal out there, but that's ok. She's a Manual 2.7L 4WD with 218k. When I first looked at her, I was unpleasantly surprised by the cracked windshield, but when I crawled underneath I was sold. SO CLEAN. I don't know the typical frame failure points, so I can't comment all that well on their condition. I did inspect the whole chassis for about an hour, though. The total rust was equivalent to a two-year-old car here in VT.

I expect with a good paint job, and annual undercoatings (maybe a cavity wax), I will have this truck for a long long time.
