Well Ive been absent for a month. Busy with work and travel. I got a new toy today though. My previous (only just completed) RTT and bedslide setup is for sale in the Arizona classifieds. Its a 1986 Four Wheel Campers Fleet. Drove down to Tucson for it this morning. Havent torn into it yet but lots of details, including a full remodel, will follow. This will be my third FWC remodel project.

Holy crap, its been a while. I completely remodeled the FWC in the picture above and promptly sold it. Then I drove 17,000 miles in the last 6 months. Now I have decided its time to work on the Tacoma! The kitchen slide is back in, the camper has been replaced with a softtopper and now the truck is going under the knife...

My "before" fender measurements are below.

Ground to fender measurements empty + softtopper + 3/4 tank
    FL - 35”
    FR - 35 1/4”
    RL - 36” 1/4”
    RR - 36 5/8"

Hub to fender measurements empty + softtopper + 3/4 tank.\
    FL - 20 1/2"
    FR - 20 3/4"
    RL - 21 3/4"
    RR - 21 7/8"

Here she is for another few hours.

Im going to wait for it to settle before cutting down the new u-bolts. Might put the overload back in. I had to remove one of the factory spring retainers which turned out to be a huge pain, the "rivet" that holds it on is enormous ha.

    Before

Thanks. I have jackstands, the jack in a couple of the pictures was just for snapping a pic. When I work on the truck its on jack stands.

Oh man do I have pics ha. I completely gutted it, shortened it 20", welded it back together, redid every single thing except the roof. All new interior and exterior. I have a build thread for it on expedition portal here. https://www.expeditionportal.com/fo...fleet-shortening-documentation-thread.199234/

Friday night I got a cab mount chop done. I also did some minimal trimming beforehand so the truck was at least drivable to the shop where the CMC was done. Avid Offroad in Queen Creek AZ did a great job, chop looked factory. My fear about it was realized though, its not enoug of a chop. 35s are too much for a "normal" cab mount chop. Took the truck on a shakedown run today in Sedona and rubbed the paint right off the cab mount. Oh well, I might go straight for a cab mount relocation. That way I can fit 37s in the future!

Looks like a lot of room right? Wrong. I still need to hammer the pinch weld some more and reshape the fender liner but I now think it will be easier to stuff 35s than I originally was worried about.

Finally reinstalled a super shorty CB antenna since the 4 footer and 3 footer I had didnt fit in my garage after the lift!

Also installed the @RedlineTuning QuickLIFT hood lift system. This thing is incredibly nice, factory looking fit and finish and installs in under an hour.

How far apart do you have the topper against the cab? Without leaving a huge gap between the topper and the cab, I cant get my topper to look as nice as yours does in the rear. Do you have velcro on the tailgate?

Its really close to the cab, so close that when the rear straps loosen over time, the front of the topper starts to rub on the 3rd brake light and I can hear a squeaking noise. When that happens I loosen all four tension straps and retighten them so the whole thing looks snug but just barely doesnt rub the 3rd brake light. I like having it this snug against the cab but I might get sick of adjusting it and scoot the mounting system back about 1/2" so I dont have to bother with it so often.

I do have velcro on the tailgate to hold the rear panel snug. Its the velcro provided by softtopper and I followed their instructions; clean the tailgate, apply the velcro, let sit for 24 hours before putting any pressure on the velcro. Its incredibly strong so far.

I'm the same way. I wanted the topper as snug to the cab as much as I could. I tried the velcro strip on the tailgate. But the az sun would heat up the adhesive to the point where the velcro would just peel away.

    But yours looks great!

Adding to the list of "shit that should have been included on an almost $40,000 truck." Plug and Play tailgate lock and harness kit from @KTJO 4x4

I bought my kit before they came out with the fancy new bracket that mounts the actuator to the handle/lock assembly. Thinking I might snag one of those.

Super easy install, everything works well. I did have one of the pink connectors fail in my hand before even connecting it so I lost confidence in them and decided to solder the connections instead. Otherwise its great.

Anyone need an actuator? I have an extra that is the exact same part the kit comes with. I bought it to do a DIY before finding the ready made kit from @KTJO 4x4
