    Hey All,

Being an owner of a Tacoma and being able to speak to its quality and durability, I am trying to get my wife into a Toyota SUV. We looked at the 4 runners because I love my Tacoma and figured it’s the closest thing in SUV form. However, when we went to look at some used ones on the market, we started looking at the Sequoia and the kids really loved it. I have researched the reliability, common problems ect, I know Toyotas are as a whole reliable. We are looking at getting something around 2008-2012MY to fit into our price range likely with higher mileage..

Getting to the main point of the thread, we have had issues with AWD systems. Our last 2 SUV’s experienced AWD failure due to how weak and over complicated they are built. I prefer selectable 4wd/2wd like a truck. They just seem to be built stronger then these wanabe part time AWD crap they stick in the average SUV’s days.. So It seems the Sequoia has full time 4X4 with a center diff? How strong is it? Will it ever be a concern under normal circumstances? I can find plenty of generic explanations on full time 4x4 but I’m specifically interested in how the Toyota sequoia works and how stout it is built does anyone one here happen to have one? Any other experiences with these, positive or negative?

    Thanks!

Someone else will have to speak on the details but I wouldn't worry about Toyota's 'full time 4x4' systems, they've been using it reliably for years in the Landcruiser and 4runners. I don't see why the Sequoia would be any different.

The 2nd gen Sequoia is one of the most reliable vehicles on the road. It's heavily based on the Tundra and 200 Series Land Cruiser.

The transfer case is a HD Aisin unit that can be run in three modes, part time 2WD, full time AWD, and locked center diff high/low range. It is based on both the part time Tundra case and the Land Cruiser full time case.
