Sounds like fun. Wish I could join but I plan to drive to Virginia that week with the family. If still looking for camping in Maine, Fiddlehead campground in Fryeburg can easily fit large groups this time of year and you camp right on the Saco river. Bring bug spray, the good shit. Lots of Deet!

Edit: River Run campground south of Fryeburg is good too.

So I am officially out. HOWEVER, I might cross paths with you guys. I wanted to join and asked the wife if she’d like to. She said she didn’t like the idea of tagging along with a ground and would rather we do our own thing. We’re bringing our idiot dog and if we want to stop and hike with him for a bit to stretch his legs our timing wouldn’t work with the group anyway. So the plan for myself now is:
    • 5/24: drive up to ME and camp in western ME
    • 5/25: drive to the crash site, then drive up to the trains. Make camp at a dispersed spot near the trains. This will probably be the day we’d cross path with the group.
    • 5/26: drive west into the north Maine Woods, make a loop along the golden road and come out at the carribou checkpoint. Spend the night at a hotel in Bethel ME.
    • 5/27: drive home to NY
If I see the group I’ll know it’s you. I’ll leave my CB on and if I hear chatter I’ll try and get in touch. Would be nice to meet some people from here in person.

Do you remember the channels we used for the 3 different comms to chat with each other. Thinking if we can establish the channels now, folks can have better chance of making contact if not with the group.

I believed wE used CB, HAM and GMRS (or what the abbreviation is), all of them worked with each other.

You start shenanigans like that I'm going to tape a chili pepper to your tire.

Put some pep in your step.

Sideeeeee note. If anyone wants to buy once cry once, this is a gmrs radio. You need to file for a permit to use it. Permit covers the whole family for 10 years. Ends up being like 6$ a year or so.

The frequency range is right next to the ham ones. Power wise it's 3x more powerful than cb at 15w. For refference, I normally run 10 on my ham rig all the time, daily. Also, you can get aftermarket antennas if you want (not needed).

Just food for thought if anyone is interested

Another gear note: USGS has a topo map AP you can get, the pay version gives you offline maps, and you can download the high resolution tiles.

Well worth it for Backcountry use.

KoA Naples and Caanan both booked that weekend with a 3 day minimum. I'll be at Tripoli next weekend to see what is open. There's also a KOA in Lincoln/Woodstock area

Not yet. That's the last part of the trip I have to plan out. If you have any suggestions that would be great. Worst case we can always just play fetch with him for a bit if we find space just to have him burn off some energy.

So I'm not exactly sure what we are doing yet for Friday night camping but if we still need to use my bosses place in VT we can.
I do have the number for the portajon.
I can call and figure out how much, just let me know.

CB is Ch 19 up there. Although with such a large group we'll have to be careful not to 'flood' the channel with BS. The awesome handeheld radios you had were FRS. My GMRS license covers those frequencies as well at lower power. So thats how I was able to chat with you guys. We were on one of the lower but cant remember the specific ch#. Any should work

VT is too far for me to commit to Friday night drive. The options in NH might be more able. I can offer up a few spots in my yard, I am about 10 minutes off 95, with lots of stores and what not around.
