I just purchased my first Taco, a 2019 TRD 4x4 sport. The spec sheet listed the gas mileage for the truck as 18 city22 hwy average 20mpg. I’ve been easy on the throttle and have been getting about 15-16mpg. I don’t know if it’s just that the engine is new, but with gas at $4 a gallon in California, I’m only getting about 300 miles from a 21 gallon tank. What’s up with this? Thoughts.

Lots of MPG threads here, and that little search box in the upper right will help you find them.

But my main thought is that if you wanted MPG, you unfortunately bought the wrong vehicle.

Too many factors depend on this. Wind, speed, traffic, hills, it goes on. Give it some break in time, hopefully it will get better.

Sometimes I wonder if they use a dyno, or drive the damn things in a circle in a flat parking lot to establish MPG ratings. I drive 60 miles per day on the hills of Appalachia and get 23-25mpg on average.

Ok, well it's up and then down and then up and then down and around a couple curves and then up and down again ad infinitum.

In socal city driving or freeway (at peak times) is a milage killer.
There is virtually a stop light or stop sign at every corner.

I learned to stop taking the 5 and start taking back routes. While the back routes WOULD be longer if there is absolutely no traffic, this is not reality. Takes 45 minutes the back way vs 1.5 hours taking the "fast" way.

It is absolute madness. There seem to be a lot of frwy shut downs for accidents and fatalities lately

I get 20mpg commuting back and forth to work. 70 miles a day driving like an old lady.

I put a high flow air filter and an MBRP exhaust on my new truck, hoping this might help with gas mileage. My Taco definitely sounds more like a truck now regardless.
