Talk me out of getting a Canyon

I test drove Tundra as well: I was surprised how much I like it! The rear slider alone wowed me LOL

Of the full-size trucks, Ram and Tundra drove the best. But in the end I couldn’t justify somehing so large and thirsty —and in Ram’s case...somehing so freaking expensive!

 

And get a 1st gen Tacoma for when you need to haul something in a truck. <waving>

 

I'm late to the party but the answer is SIMPLE:

Toyota has better longevity than both Ford and Chevy.

 

It's so true. No matter how nice GM tries to make their interiors, they still look like they're right out of 1995.

I'm not a Ford fan either, but they mange to make decent looking modern interiors lately. With GM, though, it's like a time capsule.

 

Umm, how about you take some responsibility for your decisions.

Just get a canyon. You don't deserve a Tacoma anyway. Lmao

 

I have said this on other threads. I had a 06 Tacoma 4x4 sport. I really liked it. It got totaled in 09. Purchased a Ram 4x4. Only problem I had with it was the rear end went out once. Fixed under warranty. In 2016 I went shopping for a mid size. Toyota and GM had just come out with their updated pickups.

I looked long and hard at a 2016 Tacoma. There were things that I liked and some that I did not like. Looked at the GM twins. Same thing. There were pros and cons to the vehicles. Looked at a Nissan Frontier Pro 4x. That is what I ended up with. It reminded me of my 06 Tacoma. Also Nissan was dealing back then Toyota and GM was not.

 

I looked at these when the 3rd gens were coming out and the moment we sat in one
the wife looked at me and said "is it me or has nothing changed in 20 yrs?" I said nope, it's
not just you, looks like the chevy's of the 90's.....and we left.

 

Tacoma has the best looking and feeling interior of all midsize trucks at the moment; Frontier the worst.

Tacoma’s exterior is more...mmm...controversial.

In the end the interior was the deciding factor for me. That’s where I spend most of my time, touching and looking at. Having said that, the GMC interior is way more comfortable...

 

I won’t talk you out of it. In fact I’m suggesting you get the canyon and give us feedback and share your experience.

Geez...that’s almost as bad as driving a lifted Wrangler.

I was able to get 16-17 MPG out of my 2018 Rubicon 4-door with a 2” lift and 315/70-17 KO2s. It didn’t matter if I was doing 30, 50 or 80 MPH.

I found tire width to be the real killer of fuel economy, though. My 2015 Wrangler Sahara 4-door had much narrower 34x10.5 KO2s and was able to get 2-3 MPG more. Even with a rear LSD.

Both had 4.10 gears and carried a Zeon 10 winch.

 

I just drove by a newish parked Canyon that had condensation filling up it's driver's side tail light. That stuff annoys me.

Why is it so difficult for some to understand that an individual could genuinely consider buying something besides a Toyota?

Yes, Toyotas are great. But it only holds a 15% market share. That means that every day 85% of Americans buy something else.

Everything that doesn’t have a Toyota badge isn’t automatically crap.

 

Christ. This is a Tacoma forum, don't act surprised. Maybe the OP should be asking this question on a GMC forum.

 

Sorry. That doesn’t cut it. This type of arrogance turned me off from Toyota for years to the point that I didn’t want be caught dead in one. It took the infamous 2010 Toyota Recalls to bring some humility into Toyota.

Some of these responses are based on outdated prejudices. Today the disparity in quality between Toyota and the rest is a fraction of what it was 30 years ago. This forces Toyota to compete for every sale and that is a good thing for everyone on here.

Everyone should cross shop before buying. Even if you end up buying another Toyota, seeing what the competition offers makes you an informed buyer, and helps you understand and appreciate what makes the Toyota you bought a better choice.

 

You should totally buy a Canyon OP.

 

My .02. I rent cars every week for work. Typically over 100 rentals per year. I work for idiots that think it is cheaper to rent as needed than to provide a company car. To say the people at Enterprise know me is an understatement because at this point I just pull up and pick whatever I want. The upside about Enterprise and the current rental car market is they have pretty much everything and since I am in the south, that includes a lot of trucks. In the past year I have rented several F-150s, Silverados, Canyons, Tundras, Tacoma SR5s, and one Frontier (the only truck I would never take again). With that said, I could seriously consider a Canyon. It seems more spacious, got decent gas mileage, good on road manners, decent pick up, and decent looks.

I personally like the interior of the Tacoma better. I have a TRD Offroad with Nav and thought it was much better than the Canyon. With that said, if I had the SR5 audio system, I would have preferred the Canyon. Other than a few personal likes and dislikes, I would have a hard time telling anyone to pick one over the other. The Frontier on the other hand....
