Exactly my point. More bad than good when it comes to diff drops. All I did was an OME carrier drop kit. I Just need to lower the front and do other readjustments.

Lifts done with driving style in mind and within mechanical tolerance are no different than stock. Glamour lifts are a good learning experience for many, including those of us who read about them in an effort to learn about real world conditions. Even quality wear parts eventually fail. I think OP should be commended for risking for his hobby and for asking for advice and for taking the advice and for being a firefighter.

    I agree completely.

I also learned a term that is quite appropriate.

"Glamor lift". That's a good description.

I appreciate the kind words. I’m new to the “lifting” community and I learned a lot about my truck, parts, etc just on this site alone.

Gotta agree with you on the “glamour” lift though haha. I guess I went a little overboard on the preload on my kings.

Also, if anyone has a good recommendation on what cleaner to use to remove all the cv axle grease or method it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Just a good degreaser from the auto parts store, let it soak awhile and wipe off the thick greasy parts and spray down the rest

I had the same exact thing happen on my 08. 3 inch OME kit with total chaos UCA's and a dakar leaf pack. I didn't drop the front diff, the CV's went. I didn't drop the carrier bearing, the U joints went. lesson learned. You can drive on them. I was in the same boat, stuck on shift for 24, had to drive home 45 min in traffic. It was fine. You have probably been driving on them like that for a few months. The thing I WOULD be worried about is what someone else posted about you checking because your steering felt loose. That would concern me. But that also could be because you lifted it so high. I always said if I was ever going to lift a truck again, I would get properly built and booted CV's, because no matter what, they will fail earlier than normal.

Drive it, you’ll be fine. I’ve replaced axles that look like they’ve been ripped for years.
I’m not sure about the whole, Tacoma OEM vs aftermarket axle argument, but for me, it’s way easier to just replace the complete axle than it is to remove, clean, repack and replace the boots.
It’s just such a pain in the ass to clean the joint and make sure there’s no dirt/grit/grease left in it......and yes, I have a wash tank and air compressor.....

Axles are fine, put new boots on them. Preferably sdhq. They can set you up with boots and grease.

Don’t do a diff drop. It’s a waste. 1/2” spacers only lower your cv’s a 1/4”. Just take some preload out and rebuild your axles. No need to replace. I’d be willing to bet your cv’s are still covered in grease when you remove the boots.

If you end up replacing the axles I’d be interested in your old ones for spares. Also definitely don’t go with aftermarket axles. Get them from the dealer.

Your front CVs have nothing to do with the drivability of the truck (other than 4x4). You can drive it until you have time to get them replaced and drop the diff to get the proper angle. The boots are already shot and looking at the angle of the shafts I would say that the CV joint is already hurt.

Yeah. I wasn’t worried too much about the boots being ripped. My main concern was if my truck was drivable back home since I’m still on shift. My drive is about an hour back home and plus another 25 mins to my local mechanic. But it sounds like it’s “ok” to drive for now.

Thank you for your input. I already ordered a pair of oem axles yesterday from my local shop. I’ll hit you up afterwards regarding the old ones.

Question, what coils are you running? 600s, 650s or 700s? I’m running 650s with a steel bumper, winch, front skid, sliders and have the drivers at 9 threads passenger at 8 which gives me just shy of a 2” lift. Everyone’s setup will never be identical but the biggest thing is measuring hub to fender and really see how much lift you really have.

they make cv boots that are heavy duty and longer to prevent this from happening. you might look into a pair of those.
