Looks like I'm coming back...2019 TRD OR vs my old 2013 TRD Sport

So it's been a strange long journey but it would seem that I will be coming back to a Tacoma very soon...I was hoping to get a bit of insight from the community. My last Tacoma was a 2014 TRD Sport CC LB and the truck I'm hoping to get into is a 2019 OR CC SB. I can see there's mixed feelings regarding the powertrain but it seems like for the most part people are at a minimum content with everything else. So that said, I'd like to hear from anyone who's gone from a 2nd gen V6 auto to a 3rd gen V6 auto and what they think of the differences between the two. Thanks in advance guys!

Everyone’s experience is different. What may be fine for me might not be right for you. After all these, the best way is for you to rent a tacoma for the weekend and drive the hell out of it. Drive up the mountains, the freeway and your daily commute route. Then you won’t have buyers remorse. That’s the only way .
Some dealerships offer to offset the cost of renting for the weekend towards a purchase. I used to own a 2011 tacoma. Liked it but I liked my 2017 better. Thing is you have to press the gas so you get to speed quicker . ( there’s a lot of low end torque if you do this) then relax once you get to speed. It’s all about gas pedal modulation.

Its more like, turn on ECT and your expectations are more aligned to what this truck should drive like. Without it, the truck will be a little frustrating.
Overall a good vehicle for the most part.

Test drive, test drive, test drive. Oh and the manual transmission is worth it.

Access cab and double cab. Not sure which one you are talking about since you used crew cab. Either way get a good long test drive in.

I've had a 2012 PreRunnder and now a 2019 ORDC. The 2012 had a 5 speed AT and had decent low end torque, but MPG's left a lot to be desired. My current OR has a 6 speed AT with the torque maxed at higher RPMS. This is fine except at highway speeds where it shifts to 6th gear. Problem here is that slightest requirement for more power (hill, head wind etc) will have it shifting down to 5th and sometimes 4th so the engine can get to the optimum torque RPM. Honestly it's not as bad as some people make it out to be, but it can be irritating. It might not bug me as much as others as I drive mostly on flat streets and don't do long freeway commutes.

Other than that, I've got nothing else negative to say about 3rd gens. Love my truck and would buy it again.

Something people also fail to mention is that Tacomas are selling better then ever despite the extra competition. Try it out for yourself but people love them.
