I don't think TacomaSport86 knows what he is talking about. I've drag raced and smoked several 2nd gen 4.0 tacomas now with my 3rd gen 3.5. Not trying to start an argument but it does get a little old.

I have a 19. Slow, sluggish shifts, bogs on hard accel. I've emailed my dealer about getting the 16-18 fix yesterday, but no reply yet. Not happy after 6 months.

Thats just the way it is. The truck loves to stay in the 1k-2k RPM range where there is no power and will constantly shift to achieve this (likely to achieve better mpg).

So when you try and get some power out of it, it hesitates because it is in too high of a gear.

Having aready owned a 2016 a knew what i was getting when i went ahead to get a 2019. Nothing you (or the dealer) can do, thats just how the truck is designed to drive.

Was into the dealer yesterday to get new wheels (from a 2018 Sport) to replace the stock sport wheels on my '15 (looks much better now, I must say)...Anyway, they gave my a 2018 TRD OR as a loaner while they swapped out everything.
I was quite impressed actually with the '18. Quicker around town than my '15...it gets your attention when it downshifts. Overall, I thought it was a nice driving truck. Dash is much nicer than the 2nd Gen.
I like better the way my 4.0 l lays down its power on the highway though.
The 3rd Gen, while a little different, is a nice driving vehicle, IMO.
    Cheers, Jeff

That is what I found with the AT’s. The MT is a lot better.

I’m happy with my third gen and don’t think it feels any more or less powerful then my old 4.0 did but I agree it is defiantly geared a little tall
