I have a Tacoma that was sold new in Nove Scotia, I bought it used in the states, unaware of this till after the purchase. The speedometer and odometer doesn’t work, the dealer is telling me I need a part to convert it to American, but they are unable to me a part name or number. Any help would be appreciated.

So they say it won’t work because it’s in the US now and it can’t read miles? :facepalm:Please go to another dealer that’s not retarded.

Also it’s most likely something to do with the abs wheel speed sensors, harness, or skid ecu.

There are saying that I’ll need a part of some type to make it work at all. Right now the odometer and speedometer is not functioning

Canadian trucks have mph as well as km/h markings on the speedo.

There's no "part" to convert it to American is what I'm saying.

I didn’t think there was either. One thing this truck has is an after market alarm system, I’m thinking when they wired it, they screwed up something.

Yeah if the speedo and the odometer are dead it’s most likely either the instrument panel is messed up or the wiring to the panel is. Check to see if any wires are cut in the dash that lead to the instrument panel.

For whatever it’s worth the only difference between a US Tacoma and a Canadian Tacoma on the instrument panel is that it reads kilometres with mph on the inside of the dial in a smaller font.

I'd start by checking the GAUGE fuse. Any lights work in the cluster?

It was how you worded the Question that confused me at least.

Maybe Start with the year and some specs.

It might be possible that the part in the cluster that shows mileage is burnt out that allows you to toggle between miles and kilometers .

Might be why nothing works .

Then if Those trucks VIN`s are not in The USA Toyota Parts data base some counter people are going to be clueless never having had this problem I can`t say.( Maybe just did not want to bother)

Anyone have this happen to them from Canada trying to look up parts on American Toyota sites ??

I'm pretty sure the part numbers are different for everything.

Looks like this thread has been dead for a while, but I figured I'd throw in my two cents. I had a similar situation with the purchase of a 2010 DCLB CAN truck and not finding out until after the purchase and I took it to my dealer for the leaf-spring recall.

However, my situation at the dealer has been a little different from yours. My dealer hasn't given me any crap, and with some body work I needed to have completed (I've been rear-ended twice), I haven't heard a thing about part numbers being different. Sounds like I've got the same speedo as you (analog dial with a digital odometer/tripometer) with MPH on the outside of the dial, KMPH on the inside and my digital odometer reading in miles.

I'm going to have to agree with some of the earlier posters that even if the speedo/odo is broken, you should be able to use any parts available here in the US interchangeably with CAN parts. Kind of seems like you dealership is feeling a little lazy.
