Anyone know a reputable shop that could repair the body side cab mounts? Frame is new so I’d like to get more time out of the truck, but I fear the mounts are going to punch through the cab side structural mounts.

Any experience with Auto Rust Technicians in Cranston? They seem to focus more on frame work, but possibly do repairs like this...

When I went to Auto Rust to have my original frame sandblasted and undercoated, they had a couple of cars in the parking lot that were there for body rust repair. If you're not too far, take a drive and ask, the owner/workers are really nice to talk to.

Thanks for the reply. I planned to talk to them, or a fabricator, in the late fall so I’m not without the truck during the summer. Hoping to get my leads now and have whomever ready for the truck then.

How’d your frame come out after they blasted/painted it?

I have a thread on the whole experience, but to make a long story short, I would not have a rusty frame undercoated by them, as they can't reach/get rid of all of the rust with the sandblaster. But I had my frame replaced a little over a year ago, so all is well now!

I only took one picture of the worst one, but they’re all similar. 6 cab mounts in total. I took it further away for perspective and then closer up. The front two (close to the bumper on the same support as the hood latch) don’t seem bad at all, probably just need the surface rust cleaned. The 4 which look similar to the picture are pretty crusty. The one pictured has a small hole in the metal itself so it’s only a matter of time.

The mounts look like sheet metal formed to accept the cab mounts and then just spot welded to the body. There is currently a 3” body lift on the truck that I want to remove once the rust is sorted since it provides more access.

Wow, I would just por15 those and do some body filler if you dont plan on holding in to it. The fab guy I use, would do the CAB MOUNTS not the body portion.

Yeah, the frame is new like I said so I’m hoping to get more out of the truck. Mechanically it’s fine. Be a shame just to ditch it over what doesn’t seem like that big of an ordeal. Cheaper to fix it than buy a newer truck at least.

Sousa’s Auto Body did some rust repair on rockers and some paint work for me on another vehicle and did a great job for a very reasonable price. They are in Pawtucket.

I will keep that in mind.

I need to reach out and see whether this is in a regular auto body’s wheelhouse or not since it’s structural. Every time I think body shop my mind goes to bondo.

Fair enough - they cut out the rusted area and welding in metal for mine (easy to know using the magnet test)
