I went with a Snap Treehouse. Being in Michigan they were the closest to me. East side of Pennsylvania makes them pretty much the only outfit on the east coast right now

Nice man, I’ve looked at these. Seem like a variation of the vagabond camper, just with a lot more openings. How do you like it?

I haven't used it nearly enough! Two nights with a Mr. Buddy around 0F and stayed nice and warm. I'm looking forward to finishing the interior build out and really starting to use it. Definitely beats a tent on the ground!

The top is on! Just have to get the tenting done by a local shop. Which I’ll hopefully have in a month or so. A little side by side with my buddies GFC.57F6912C-69FE-4072-AA5C-5A66BC3C3C30.jpg

@ke4640d20 would you be interested in a CVT mattress?

@littlefish has one available I thought you might be able to make use of!

    Update:

I wasn’t planning on doing the material myself, but after receiving some ridiculous quotes and lazy responses from shop owners here in the Sacramento area. I figured, I’ll buy a sewing machine, learn a new trade and save approximately $2000.00 in the mean time.

Surprisingly enough, working with canvas is really not that hard. Just take your time, take lot of measurements and then take some more before you make any cuts. I have the canvas mocked up, and will start sewing on it tomorrow.

Excellent choice. I would 100% DIY the canvas if I did another.

But damn $2k? I my total bill was like $1.2k. Which is still astronomical when the materials are like 2-300 bucks.

What is your plan for the windows?

Yeah dude, It’s really not that difficult. Yeah the shop told me that they need approximately 20 hours of R&D to even movk it up. I did it in 6 lol.

2k was the starting price, they said 2k minimum. I just about laughed out loud when he said that because the camper along cost me about 2k. No way in hell was i spending that much.

The material cost me $50.00 from Amazon, and another $30.00 in zippers,
    Velcro and thread.

I am basically going to mimic the GFC windows just because I do t feel like trying to re engineer something that works. + I have a gfc sitting in my driveway for the next month or so. So I can reference quite a bit.

Ah that makes sense. I did all the mock up and just gave the shop a template to follow, and they even F'd that up on the first try lol.

When I talked to GFC about their windows, they were so infatuated with the idea of the venturi effect they wouldn't even consider bigger canvas windows (with the exception of the door they put on the RTT versions). Which I could understand for a trailer or something, but on a space the size of a small tent it really doesn't change much in terms of ventilation. Especially when you can just put giant windows and gain all the visibility. So my advice on windows is go big or go home haha.

Yeah they gave me that option as well, but still wanted like 300$ for the window and to “sew”The piece together. I was able to do it all in one piece, which I think is much better.

I’am not 100% on the GFC design. I am not to much of a fan on the rear door and how the rear flap is on.

    Ordered zippers and mesh today.

Today’s progress. Was able to salvage the 1/4” HDPE for the sleeping platform. So I am super happy about that. Not entirely wasted material.

Mosquito netting and zippers on order to finish the tent! And then mattress and it’s done!

Hey just wondering where you ordered waterproof zippers from if you wouldn't mind posting a link? Thanks!

I didn’t go with waterproof zipper, but I did get these. Sail rite sells some sweet waterproof zippers.

This weeks progress, I was able to finish up all the windows and zippers, and install it on the truck. The stitches are not the prettiest, but it holds together. Maybe I’ll remake the canvas down the road a little bit nicer, and a little more waterproof.

I have the mattress ordered. That’s going in on Friday. And I will hopefully have some camping pictures from this weekend up on Monday.

Updated a bunch of info on Post #2 as far as the build. Should have all the info / pics up within the next week or so.

Separate build thread for the camper? yay, ney?

Your camper looks fantastic. Is there room to leave the bed padding and any blankets up top when you close it?
It would be clean if the camper had it's own build thread.
