This is your windmill Don Lunercrab. I respect your lunacy. Our ancestors will sing of your battle!

j/k... good luck. there are plenty of other less expensive options to get this look outside the dealer. I plastidipped my emblems (>$10) and bought decals from @rrentrop. His tailgate inserts are $20.
https://tvdvinyldecals.com/collecti...-vinyl-insert-decals-for-2016-tacoma-tailgate So for about $30 you'll get what you want.

Unless by tailgate decal you mean something else besides the tacoma letter inserts?

yeah, how bout that? have one of our own make custom decals to your specs. win win, and a lose for your dealer. TVD mentioned above, or CBoy808. they will save you money, too.

Yeah like I said at this point if they don't give them to me for free I'm just going to get them somewhere else.

My dealer has all the parts listed on its website at full MSRP with the parts number right next to it.
All I have to do is Google the parts number and shop online for the best price. Amazon and eBay have free shipping on most items.

When I bought the truck I purposely avoided paying for anything that I could easily install myself. Three weeks later I have spent close to $500 in Toyota parts like a TRD exhaust tip, mudguards, tailgate inserts, door sill protectors, a cargo net, etc., etc.

Had I bought them from my dealer it would have cost me twice as much. Five hundred dollars in Toyota accessories may not be a lot to my dealer but it is for me.

It is totally their choice how they want to run their business. In the end I got the parts I want and they got zero dollars from.

    Some thoughts:

Dealers make almost all of their money in their service and parts department. They make next to nothing selling vehicles.

I don’t think their price needs to match the price of a faceless online retailer, as they offer the convenience of local supply, and someone to talk to if there is a problem.

So, expect a reasonable mark up. If you feel the markup is unreasonable, shop elsewhere.

The argument that “Toyota made their profit” does not take into account the dealership is not Toyota. The dealer also needs to pay wages and keep the lights on, as well as turn a profit.

There is ZERO reason to be in business without the incentive of some profit. No one wants to be in business just to break even or lose money.

dude, seriously if you want then just pony up and pay them and move on with life, pretty sure in the next 4 weeks you can find something else to spend $140+ on that will serve as little purpose as some stickers...not trying be a dick but you're literally complaining about them not wanting to sale something "at cost"..no one does because if they did they wouldn't be in business..good luck man

I just saw the op’s name and it all makes sense now.
There will be no loosing, there will be no moving on, there will be no exploring other options.
What would have been cost, will now be free, and even in the end that will not be good enough to escape the wrath.

    No I'm not complaining t
No the I'm not complaining they aren't selling me at cost, that was the agreement the manager gave me to sell them at cost and now they are telling me outrageous prices. So I want what they promised which was to sell those two parts at cost.

    Very true, indeed.

At the same time, dealers offering the exact same Toyota part for 40% less, including shipping, are still making money.

Some dealers, whether Toyota or not, still operate under the expectation that we haggle over every single bolt. That business model may have worked 30 years ago, but the smarter Parts Dept. managers now keep an active online presence and offer attractive prices.

Why did they say they'd sell these to you at cost? Did they mess somethign up, or was it a sweetener for you to buy the truck? Just curious.

So I work for a dealership. When people mention cost, they are referencing to their department cost. It may vary depending on dealerships and their relationship between each department.
Also accessories are not marked much. The dealer starts losing at around 22-25% off retail.

At our dealership cost to each department is at 10% above our cost. As much as we want you to have the best deal we cannot sell everything at cost. We all have families support as well.

There are instances where a part may become an obsolescence so a dealer may try to sell it at below cost. If they cannot sell it we write it off and toss it.

When I have people asking me to sell them parts or service at cost, I just politely ask what they do for a living and ask if they can provide their service to me at actual cost where they won’t make a penny and just waste their time.

You can always get it cheaper online than at the dealer. Even with their deals, their margins suck on oem parts

Last time someone promised me something "at cost" from the dealership, the GM told me no one was supposed to even use that term and are not authorized to do such a thing. I got my windows tinted for free in ceramic as an apology.

Seeing these threads reminds me that I negotiated no extras for the Taco. But then, I was just fucking happy to get a reliable ride and a good deal.
