Been doing a lot with my truck lately but this is something I’m really happy getting done. I did get a better cap for the radiator it’s just not in the pics.

 

Tonneau cover came today! Garage is like an oven but I’m gonna brave it

 

Wow, this time of year you can sure have some radically different weather from one end of the country to the other. We had snow yesterday.

 

Supposed to get 2 feet of snow tonight. It's been raining the past 2 days here.

 

We’ve just been getting rain in town, maybe a skiff of snow on the mountain, which is fine, it’s May.

 

removed lower shield/fuel skid to be taken to powdercoater soon
not as easy job as should been
will have more trouble getting back on than off i am thinking

 

I wouldve taken the money that youre spending on powdercoating and spent it on a real fuel tank skid instead. The stock one is like a tin can and doesnt offer much protection. Even if you dont offroad its worth it.

 

This ^^ no one sees the skid anyway, well unless you roll over but hopefully that won't happen.
I dunno how I've managed not to fubar mine, it's got a few scrapes but nothing terrible

 

Ill replace mine someday when I have extra cash laying around. After seeing some threads of guys having their tanks damaged by just running over stuff in the road Im sold on having something more beefy than stock. And that PC job is gonna run in the neighborhood of $50-60 Id guess, thats a good chunk off buying a new thicker one.

yep. Mine and about 4-5 others on here. Leaked. Left me on the side of the highway. Running my OEM one again. Glad I didn't throw it out.

Need to send it back in for warranty replacement still. Just not that motivated to do so.

 

how much is one of those? OEM one is over $200 which is a lot
these skids used are near hard to come by from a part-outer guy on here
powdercoat is $45 +tax
it does look flimsy as hell lol, first time fckr been off
will the powdercoat need to be done to new thicker one to resist weathering

i see the side when I am fueling up, and when truck up in the air at mechanics
fuel tank looked in good shape, no noticeable weathering underneath

other skids/shields must be made of different materials (transfer case, catconverter) coz they aint in too bad condition of weathering
i thought i always spray it down real good in the winter, must be very susceptible to ANY kind of moisture?
the top of it that butts next to fuel tank was very clean, just a couple weathered spots, the bottom half the coating was gone

 

Oh really. Didn’t know that. I wrapped up my old one just in case. How did it fail? Where did it fail?

 

Just blew either a weld or one of the tubes to the tank. Just driving home from work one day.

I think now they even list it as "2wd only, no offroad use"

Makes sense, it looks like the Chinese factory that makes them offered a discount as of late. The welds aren't looking so hot anymore. If only a company like Ron Davis would make a real nice radiator for us
