Luckily we have a lumber yard here. They don't keep a huge stock but they get what I want with a day or 2 notice. And since we don't work with lumber very often, it's usually a project I plan so I don't have to sort through the box store garbage.

 

Well that should make you feel great! Remember the people, forget the place....

 

30 years full time. I did contract labor for 5 years leading up to that. So 35 years of steady pay checks....It was once a fantastic place to work. I LOVE the people here (except a few "higher up's") I ALREADY miss THAT place. It went to hell in 2014. Newly elected president and board decided they wanted to micro-manage EVERYTHING. All they did was run off the best General Manager we ever had. Then politics and ego's were the order of the day. Hasn't been right since. They are in massive debt, losing members 3 to 1 over replacing with new members, and in general, the place is going tits up....It will be bankrupt and on the auction block in 2 or 3 years. You can bet on that. Couple newer and/or thriving clubs in the area are taking all the good members.

Louisville used to have 3 big time "lumber yards" that sold primarily to contractors. Now there is 1. If you aren't a builder with a million dollar yearly account, they don't pay you any attention. Home Depot and Lowes aren't lumber yards.... And I was banned from the closest Home Depot a few years back for getting on one of their electric fork lifts and getting my own plywood off the rack when I couldn't get anyone who worked there to wait on me.

So.... I retire!

we also have local lumber yard and local building supply. my late FIL helped me finish a rec. room in the basement of my first house. went to lowes. he told the guy the lumber was junk. asked him to pull another load down. said he couldnt. had to sell this first. FIL just walked away and said come on well go somewhere else
