In your experience what has been the best RPM to switch gears for a decent balance of MPG and the NEED FOR SPEED??? My 2018 TRD PRO has about 8k miles and I've heard the MPG increase after about 10k but I am still curious. Also I am not focusing on the MPG, but if I can find the sweet spot I have no problem having my cake and eating it too.
    PRO cake that is :deadhorse:

It is most certainly not about RPM. Ignore that. Shift when it feels right. MPGs are solely governed by how deep you dive on the throttle.

I like to feel the upper revs including tickling the limiter, but I am soft on the throttle most times.

I usually shift around 2.5-3.5k rpm, accelerating with 3/4 to full throttle as needed.

Not too much of a MPG difference between accelerating slowly for a long duration VS accelerating briskly for a short duration; the real gas savings is the ability to manage very light throttle at/near highway speeds.

RPMs depends on the driving situation so shift when it feels right, I also usually skip 4th or 5th gear.

I'm usually out of 1st gear fairly early; third is the one I tend to run up through the revs.

I shift around 2 to 2.5k, and try to let off the gas early if approaching a stop. Sometimes I'll rev it higher if needed.

1st to 2nd I shift quick because its such a clunky feeling shift (if I could just start in 2nd that would be way better...first is so low!) Other than that 25-2800 rpm. Occasionally a little higher. Contrary to what people on here say to do, I'm not revving my truck to 4-5k every time I shift. It does really take off at 2500 though, so there is some power there if I need it. Mileage doesn't seem to suffer for me doing this. Also I've noticed it shifts much smoother now (5000 miles) than it did at first, so must finally be getting broken in.

    You just feel it. :notsure:
Depends on my mood, or if I’m in a hurry, or if I feel like taking in the fresh aroma of burning rubber.
Okay I lie. My truck wouldn’t burn rubber if I mashed it to the floor and dumped the clutch.

Just wait till you redline it then shift

But usually around 3K, 1st to second I often try to redline, just to feel that torque and POWAAAAR:burnrubber:

In my previous incarnation as a fairly serious hypermiler I can say from my own experiences with a few caviots shift doesn't really matter too much.

Those caviots being I'd you short shift and keep the revs too low you don't really accelerate much and spend a bunch of fuel failing to accelerate. And if you wind it out you spend a bunch of fuel spinning the engine fast.

Keeping your foot deep into the throttle switches from close to open loop and you throw a bunch of fuel at it.

So mid RPM band accelerating fairly briskly but not too hard into it works pretty good. I tend to shift before the mode switch at about 3500rpm.

Matters more what you do with that speed...on the gas only to get back on the brakes again and you are turning that fuel into brake dust and heat.

    Lots of sail boat fuel
If I'm scootin, I'm. It even thinking about coming out of third until over 3400. I merge with highway traffic in 3rd when it's going fast

There is an optimum rpm and load at which the engine works most efficiently. You want to get to that point in an efficient way but without doing jackrabbit starts, to minimize the time the engine spends outside of the efficient zone. You are going to get beaten off the line by every minivan, but try not to have too much of a gap. You are probably never going to achieve the same fuel economy as an automatic transmission Taco. I would not hyperfocus on the cost of fuel, it is not really a major cost for most folks, compared to depreciation.

i can make a smooth shift when i hit 3k, under that it bogs over 3k and it bucks..sweet spot no matter what gear i'm leaving or going to is 3k... i just hit 22,5** this morning coming to work... everything seems fine to me and getting around 18-19 mpgs..on the interstate whine that shit out and enjoy the truck man seriously... to often worry about MPG's if that the biggest concern get a car
