who thinks the new 3.5 going into the 2018 camry will end up in the 2018 tacoma ? if so that would be good as it has more power..

    camry specs..

The 24-valve DOHC 3.5-liter V-6 engine employs the VVT-iW system for the intake, with VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing - Intelligent) on the exhaust, an efficient 11.8:1 compression ratio and a more squared bore and stroke of 3.70 inches and 3.27 inches, respectively, in comparison to the longer stroke of the Camry’s new 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder power plant. Power output is rated at 301 horsepower at 6,600 rpm an impressive torque rating of 267 ft.-lb. at 4,700 rpm. Despite its exceptional power output, the new 3.5-liter V-6 engine achieves exemplary fuel efficiency with an EPA-estimated rating of 22 mpg city/33 mpg highway/26 mpg combined, an increase of eight percent for combined mpg over the previous V6.

or could the increase because of the higher rpm's ?

What most use a Tacoma for torque needs to start at around 2200 rpms. No less than 2600 rpms. Reason that small of stroke of engine is making that much HP is because of more rpms. You take same engine an put higher flowing heads on it an more camshaft an it would make more HP. But it would have to turn more rpms to do so.

I think OVtune already put the Camry tune on Tacoma engine. I am fine with that type of power curve because I drive a manual and I don't mind getting to high revs.

However, people with autos paired with the stock Transmission software may not like it at all.

Crank, block, and cams are all the same, heads I'm betting are same also, only differences are most likely intake, programming, wiring, exhaust manifolds, etc. To make it a rear drive engine. Camry motors are made in Kentucky, Taco motors are made in Alabama, I work at Toyota West Virginia(highlander,Sennia,rx350)and have shared cams, cranks and blocks(most likely heads too but I don't know that for sure) between all three at times due to machining issues(shit broke) which is one reason why Toyota is transitioning to more modular(lack of better terms) motors that share parts so that design and manufacturing costs can be cut because they only have to make 1 design Crankshaft, cam, block, etc.

Most people on this forum want low end torque. Out there in real life they want mpg.

You are so right on the HP though. It's all about rpm and torque lol... well, and 5252!

Yes lean production... also streamlines and reduces the need for added training for techs or specialists that might need to work on the motor. Overall cost cutting

Check out his thread. the Camry tune didn't seem to have the same results on the Tacoma engine.
