    Howdy All,

Found the forum googling an engine problem and landed on a thread that was the exact same issue. A resolution was never posted though. Hopefully the original poster sees my comment.

I've got a 1999 PreRunner, extended cab, V6, automatic... bought used in 2004 from a family friend. Been a great Daily Driver. I'm a working musician so it's carried all my gear for years and doubled as my mountain fishing truck as well.

This is a cut and paste of the original post issue:

I have a 99 tacoma, with a 3.4. I noticed it was running rough upon start up, lacked power, would buck if I tried to drive it. But after it warmed up was fine. This has grown into a major loss of power to where I am crawling up hills. If the engine is warm, I can floor it, the engine will bog and then accelerate, and as it revs the actual power will fluctuate greatly. As the RPMs increase the exaust pops/sputter and backfires. The truck is barley drivable.

That's exactly what's happening to me. I'm NOT a great mechanic but I can do basic stuff pretty well: do my own brakes, replace parts, I've torn down an engine once to replace the rings in another old pick up but never again, I try to stick to non-internal engine parts.

If anybody knows the answer to this one and it's in my skill set I'd love to know.

    Thanks!

Man I wish I could help. Welcome to the forum I hope you find a good answer. I had rough start with an equinox. I sea foam the gas tank, used in throttle body, seafoam in oil then changed oil in about 300 miles and when I filled oil I put in Lucas. Now if I had to leave in a hurry it didn’t knock/vibrate and didn’t jump.

I also got a lot of air out of coolant system not sure if that had anything to do with my issue or not...again welcome and good luck
