2016 TRD OR DCSB its getting warmer here, and with the windows opened I can hear a ting noise from under the truck. It almost sounds like a heat shield being hit.. but only once reguardless of being in drive, or reverse.. seems to be consistent, and I thought it might be a trans mount, but this happens in 2wd high with no throttle, same as 4wd, and lo... and it seems to be after 1 or so rotations of the driveshaft...

My 2018 TRD Off Road did the same thing since day one. I finally traced it down to the front brake pads. After the truck is stopped, even for a few minutes, then is put in gear, forward or reverse doesn't matter, the brake pads and or backing shims 'ting' on the mount pins when the pads release from the disc. I took my calipers off and checked both sets of pads and nothing is wrong. Sometimes if you shut your truck off with the wheels turned to an extreme left or right, you will get two sets of 'tings' closely spaced when the truck first moves.

I took my truck back to the dealer for the sound and he heard nothing. Big surprise there. In short, totally normal for the truck.

Could be pad slap...though, that's more of a 'clack' sound.
Maybe check the shield around the gas tank. There's been a few where a piece bends out and hits the driveshaft.

I get the same noises under the same situations...this is the correct explanation

I went as far as pulling the truck into the garage, jacking up the front and spinning the tire after a ten or so minute 'rest'. Got a 'ting every time, spun forward or back. The 'clack' is pad slop, none here, as everyting fits tightly as it should.

weird... ill be checking my pads.. have to pull the rear drums, as I'm getting an awful squeek when stopping now.. still confused why they went with drums over rotors.. I understand cost wise... but for offroad.. you want rotors.. they cool faster, hold harder, and are not susceptible to water reducing performance as badly.
