    y’all,

2014 dbl cab, short bed, off road, 6 speed

I’m at my wits end. I can’t find a dealer anywhere near me that will disable my chime, and I have a cheat seatbelt end from my 2017 (RIP to that beautiful truck and my so so insurance rates) that does not make the passenger chime go away. I don’t want people to tell me “hurrrr it’s safer to use a seat belt” yeah I know but there’s something wrong in my passenger seat that prevents the seat belt latch from telling the vehicle “hey the passenger is using their seatbelt”

If I disconnect the latch, airbag light is on. If I use the seatbelt, constant chime (with irregular interval beeps, so it’s even worse)

98% of my driving is just me, but occasionally I have equipment, tools, materials, what have you in my passenger seat and it is driving me insane.

Is there anything I can do to trick the sensor?

Manual says it’s optional. Point that out. Tell them you will assume all liability and want it done. That if Toyota didn’t want you to turn it off, they wouldn’t have written that in the manual and made it optional. Tell them you’ll drop a shitty review every time they deny it. They tend to listen after that. Their bonuses are tied to reviews.

Or just find the belt speaker and cut it out.

I tried this multiple times and they still refused. I even pointed that out to them. Why would I insist on you doing this if I wasn’t 100% positive you could do it as per the manual?

I want something I can do without having to go the route of purchasing programming tools

Carista costs like $30 and you do it from your phone. Only other options are finding a dealer who will do it, finding and removing the piezo speaker that makes the chime, or using Techstream.

Have you left any negative reviews online? They usually reach out to you to try and take it down by correcting your experience.

    Reserected from the dead.
If it's illeagal to disable the seatbelt chime, dies that mean deaf people can't drive?

Someone in your area must have a Tech Stream program on their laptop.

Do you have a Toyota tech that you have a relationship with? Ask him to take his laptop home and buy him dinner. It's a 5 minute job.

Carista’s website says 2014 Tacomas cannot be customized

No I have not, but I really should at this point. my family has owned Toyotas for years and we have had multiple bad experiences with each of our Toyota vehicles at all of the dealers within 30 miles.

No I don’t. when I had my 2004 Tacoma, i did most of the work on it myself. The one time I took it to a dealer for an issue, they had it for 5 days, lost my spare tire, and charged me $300 in labor for a $12 part replacement. The other dealer near me had my truck for like two weeks for the frame replacement but the alignment wasn’t right and they refused to realign it for free claiming “it’s within spec” Ended up going to belle tire and paying $90 there, and it was definitely off.

With my 2017, I had good experiences with a dealer about 45 minutes away but I just really don’t want to drive out there only to have them say the same thing as before which was “we can’t turn it off”
