TRD pro fox help- UPDATE

im not 100% convinced its the shock though, as when it was disconnected, you could head some similar clunking, but not as loud. Its almost as it it got amplified when the shock went on. The shocks are not old at all, 11k i think. The hardware was still black and shiny, not major grime rust anything.

 

That is just bizarre. If you still have the old shocks, throw one on the drivers side, and see what it does. This would drive me nuts.

 

got in touch fox service, they helped me go through the shocks, check everything. No crazy bushing slop, tight. A smidgen of play but nothing that seemed unusual or any different than my bilsteins. cycled them, rebounds correctly.

the sound was there with the shock out. its louder with the shock in though.

So if im jumping up and down on the bumper, its goes "knock knock knock" on compression. its a deadend metallic sound. Does help that it echos through the bed. (I also went through and loosened then tightened down all the bed bolts.

I did an extensive search, got alot of places to look. But still lost.

 

Man I hate this for. That crap would drive me crazy.

Can you discharge the shock and then cycle it up and down to see if you can isolate the "conflict"? The take it to a shop to fix or recharge, once the "knocking" source is determined?

 

swapping the rear bilsteins in today when i get home.

if it’s gone- then i know and i’ll send it it. pretty sure it’s not the shock at this point.
ill also pop off the tire, inspect my leafs/ ubolts

 

welp. its going to fox. swapped bilstein in, clunk was gone. so...

now i gotta figure out how the whole fox service dept works. website is pretty vague.

 

The install instruction says Left resi facing rear and the Right resi facing front. Is that not correct? Got mine today looking forward to installing them soon.

 

You are correct. On the drivers side LR the resi faces the rear, on the passenger side RR the resi faces the front. The shocks are clearly marked and stamped.

 

adding to what badcow said, if you look ontop the resi- you will see the PN plus LR or RR.

Back on topic- shock is at fox getting a teardown. In that time, i took my rear lift blocks out (i had 1" ones)

 

Instead of using 1 inch blocks, I went with 1/2 inch ToyTec flat shims under the leaf packs. This gave me the exact rake I was wanting. With the PRO suspension and the flat shims, it now sits 1 inch higher in the rear. Worked well for me.

 

i actually saw your posts on that. i was considering that. Im going to need those sumosprings though, just got a camper.

 

Did you not wanted it leveled?

 

NO, I did not want it LEVEL. My truck is used to tow a boat, haul stuff and pull a trailer sometimes. So I wanted to retain the factory rake. Besides, level looks lame on pickup trucks, imho. Trucks are made to tow and haul stuff. If level, then you get major bro lean. Can't stand that. But that's just me and how I roll.

 

UPDATE-

so fox fixed the shock. it was a factory defect in it. It had a rolled O-ring, which caused the shock shaft to have play. The tech said that it would eventually cause issues, but didnt affect any dampening at this point.
So the shock went from "paid service" to "warranty". They fixed it for free!

I got it back on my truck saturday- no noise, dead silent. (well, at least the shock is, cant speak for the rest of the truck haha)

 

I installed my Pro suspension without any shims two weeks ago and it still retained 1" factory rake. I measured it at 37.5" in the back and 36.5" in the front after the install.

 

i’m going to add .25 spacers up front on mine, get the front up 1/2”

 

Not sure why, but when I installed the PRO suspension that only had 9K miles, the truck was dead level front to back. Thus the shims in the rear. Very pleased with the results.

 

Interesting, maybe I am not measuring it right? How/where did you measure it from?
