Spare tire bed mount idea and input.

Have been wrestling for a while with idea to mount the full size spare tire in the bed of the truck as opposed under it. My design consists of an aluminum plate of 13.5" X 16" X .5" bolted down in the bed of the truck on top of which is a 1" spacer supported by 6 aluminum sizer posts to clear the spare tire off the truck bed for about 1".
- would the bed of the truck support the weight of the tire concentrated in that area and the mounting holes not rip the bed from driving vibrations, brakes, turns?
- who could leaser cut the aluminum plate?

Why not utilize the already present bed bolts instead of drilling 6 new holes?

Put D rings in the bed bolts, strap it down, cost $25

 

Details on that strap setup? What is the front strap bolted to?

Won't work with a tonneau and would eliminate a front rail if you had one.

 

Not sure on the strap. I put the D rings in all my bed bolts and if I was strapping it down I’d just use two ratchet straps.

They're pretty legit. I picked up some tie-down straps from them a while back and I know others who have used them.

 

Looking for:
- tire not blocking the rear window
- tire not in an angle
- tire off the bed
- solid mount not straps
- not $$$ factory made
Any idea who could cut aluminum plate on CNC file?

 

That would be one very expensive tire hauler.

what does keeping it off the bed gain you? cant see anything purposeful

 

Clean it underneath. Power wash.

Or you can do my original suggestion for $25 and strap it to the bed floor, it’s the most secure and out of sight.
