    I will say this:

-you will be jealous of guys you see with 285’s.

-you will not be jealous of their problems.

-you will hardly ever need that extra 1/2” of ground clearance.

-when you do need that 1/2” of ground clearance, you’ll wish for a moment you had 285’s.

    The Truth:

    265/70/17 and 265/75/16 in comparison to 285’s:

    -drive nicer.
-keep unsprung weight lower for smoother running off road.
    -affect MPGs less.
-are easier on your steering box and suspension.
    -balance easier.
-accelerate quicker and rob less torque.
    -affect the speedometer less.
-fit in the stock location for a spare.
-do not require a CMC or trimming (in my experience).
    -are less expensive.
-don’t blow out your wheels bearings.

They just don’t deliver on the “big ol’ boots” look that most guys want.
