That's part of the negotiation lol. It can't be returned to stock so they can either get a truck without bumpers or help pay for aftermarket. A fair compromise would be 50% of value.

You acted in good faith installing them because you planned on keeping the truck forever. Toyota let you down with manufacturing defects not of your fault. Toyota morally should bend over to make it right, but law is written a certain way. The middle ground is a reasonable compromise brought on by negotiation.

I'm going to ask the dealer to bring the regional whoever into this, but I have little faith, based on how I've been treated so far at various levels of the Toyota hierarchy, that they're interested in doing the right thing. According to the attorney I spoke to today, I should definitely expect them to dig in their heels and admit nothing, which by the way has been a common tactic with this company, in the past.

Agreed. I've been through enough in life that it's not consuming me at this point, but it needs to be resolved. If I just didn't like the truck, would it be worth $12k more to trade? Possibly. The fact it's having so many mechanical/materials/assembly problems left and right, from the start, and through the lifespan is a problem, and I don't plan on paying more hard-earned-cash due to failures on a product I paid $38k for. It is only a bump in the road of life, I'll keep on keeping on, hopefully I can put it in the rearview! Cheers!

Got away from it all this weekend, did some morel mushroom hunting and scored!

Got Toyota’s confirmation letter today acknowledging my claim, looks like I’ll have to mail them a fat envelope of all my documentation. And also let them know they put the wrong VIN on their paperwork, off to a great start.

My documents were delivered this morning to Toyota North America, Chicago office. They may contact me and/or setup an inspection. My guess is they won't dig in until at least next week, all I can do at this point is wait it out. They request all service, purchase, warranty, accident, aftermarket parts, registration/title documentation, I made sure to also include a CD with all photos/videos of issues so hopefully they'll do a thorough review and see the electrical gremlin as well.

Looks like the valve cover leak is definitely a leak, filled the trough quite a bit since I found it. I see they sent somebody to the local hardware store when they re-attached the exhaust too, good job guys. Stellar service.

Yeah it’s poor. It was in for 31 days so they can’t say it couldn’t be ordered, bent the rear skid, looks like they kicked the front across the floor. There’s another exhaust junction that they put a new bolt in, used the old bolt for the front skid. Looks like they stripped the idler pilot bolt head as well.

I glad I took a look around under there, I really, really hope Toyota comes back and replaces the truck due to all its issues outside of this kind of BS. I will not be returning to them or any dealer on the next one. If Toyota rejects my claim, then I will be back in to fix a list of 8+ additional items and I will be pointing all of this out to the Service Manager.

I bought an extended wheel, tire, PDR, glass warranty and it's been in 3 times for various problems that wheel and glass repair have been listed as items to fix, every time they have failed to honor the warranty. Given me the "we'll give you a phone number to arrange the work with their shop" - Nope. Haven't even given me the contact information. Makes me wonder what the legalities of that is, makes me think it would fall under deceptive practice on some stuff, Mag-Moss on others.

The dealer is Carlson Toyota in Coon Rapids, MN

I really think your situation is the perfect storm of a 'monday/friday' truck, the typical 3rd gen complaints and an incompetent dealership. Yes I do think SOME of your complaints are verging on frivolous, but when looking at the whole picture you have gotten a raw deal.

I agree, once things started getting out of control with the issues I figured I'd list all the small potatoes just to give the entire picture. At this point I'm not DIY any of the small stuff because it's not worth it and I don't want to step into "customer caused it" territory. I am in the stage now of just documenting everything (even the skid, because yes, I'd like to have beat it up doing something fun [it is a skid after all], not a mechanic doing sloppy work beating it up [at least they could have banged it back to shape with hammer!].)

Toyota dealer is fixing this on my truck took two visits. First visit, I was told it was excessively dirty - probably because oil was leaking out, and they cleaned off the area and steering rack. Second visit, same technician/mechanic, confirmed the timing cover oil leak. Covered under warranty, but I'm not exactly happy that this happened. ~42k miles.
