What’s involved in buying a sport hood, painting it and installing it on the truck? Where to buy the hood and how much does it all cost?

The 2nd gen sport hood just looks frigging awesome! A sport hood photo of a TW member.

I just recently got this quote from Toyota Parts Department for everything I would need to replace my 2013 Tacoma stock hood over to a 2nd Generation hood, using some of my existing parts ($787.85). I talked to the Toyota Collision department who said they would have to blend in the fenders etc. and it would probably cost around $1,300-$1,500.00 for the paint work. Obviously you can probably pick a hood up and parts from aftermarket vendors and find cheaper places to get it painted. You might even get lucky and find a good hood at a salvage. But this should give you an idea of the cost going through Toyota.

I also ran across this company which sells OEM Toyota Tacoma Sport Hoods painted. Looks like better prices. (630) 458-0082. On the web under “Painted Auto Body Parts”, out of Addison, Illinois. I just talked to this company, looks legit, OEM hood painted to the color of your choice $412.89 plus shipping to Oregon is $145.00 = $557.89 plus you will have to buy the other parts listed above on my parts list $169.85. On the surface shopuld be into a complete painted Scooped hood for around $700.00! It seams too good to be true! That’s a big savings, over $1,500.00. Surely I’m missing something here.....true you would have to switch the hood out yourself (labor) or pay someone but worth looking at. Maybe someone on this site has had some experience with this company?

Mixed reviews, they expect you to check the product/hood out upon arrival and the customer has the option to return it with the driver after inspection. I agree a lot of bad reviews.

To err with caution, it has been brought to my attention that the BBB reviews are far from positive. I by no means endorse this company, I would encourage anyone thinking about using this company to check it out more thoroughly! It seams in life if something appears on the surface to be too good to be real, it probably is just that! A lot of Con businesses out there. Even though you have the right to inspect the product when it arrives at your residence/business and have the option to return it, who knows what hurdles you have to jump through to get your money back!

Or just find someone that wants to trade ...

Like I did this past weekend.
I went from the Sport hood to the flat hood. So much more visibility IMO.

It does look good, but also blinds you driving towards the sun in the later hours of the afternoon. There is a member that sells hood vinyl to help with that though.
