Looking for some options on what guys are using for overload springs or helper springs. Id like to maintain fairly close to a factory ride height on our Montana camping trip some of you have probably read about. I decided on the Smittybilt RTT mounted on top of Tacomapocalypse low height bars. I figure thats 200-250lbs, then gear, clothes, water, some firewood, 2 people and possibly rigging in an aux 14 gallon tank Im looking at a fairly decent payload. Anyone think i would need an add a leaf or something of the sort? this is my first tacoma and Ive only got 1k on it so im not familiar with its suspension habbits yet but i figure someone has a similar set up and can give me some insight on if its necessary. Thanks!

If you want to go AAL I'd do a 3 leaf progressive AAL. These will always provide lift in the rear.

If you want something easier to install that will keep the same ride height look into Sumo Springs, they have a couple different weight ratings to choose from and you just need new u bolts for the install. Did mine in 20 mins total.

Or you can do airbags like the Firestone Ride-Rite system, just make sure you have an air compressor with you. These allow you to change the pressure for different situations, but are also typically the most expensive.

Also, with the RTT make sure you pick up some bed stiffeners. There's a lot of info on them here and they'll keep your bed from cracking or bending outward.

I was totally unaware this was an issue. Thanks for the heads up.

Have you considered an airbag kit with a compressor? You could adjust them depending on how much extra gear you’re carrying. I had a Firestone bags, compressor, gauge and switch on my last truck and they were great.

I got the firestones with daystar cups and dobinsons 2.5 lift pack and love them. I can actually get about another 2.5” of lift apon inflation
