Has anyone had this issue? I just noticed it today so it must be new.

I keep it in my garage. It’s not super exposed.
    I’m perplexed.

Does a wife use the truck?

Rings, wrist watches, bracelets, and other non functional flair can cause this.

Pocket knife clip? I've scraped a few steering wheels just like that... it happens when getting in, the knife clip in my pocket snags it.

I have issues with mine as well along the right side perforated leather. Looks like someone glued it down wrong because there's wrinkles along each side of the cracks.

Looks like I'll be getting wheel #3 and I'm not even at 10k yet.

I have the same issue on one side. I chalked it up to maybe my wedding ring?

    20190514_124311.jpg

I carry a pocket knife, but I can't see how it would make a vertical mark.

    *edit*

Unless it was cocked all the way to the side I guess I could see it rubbing across the bottom so it looked vertical when oriented right.

This is what happens to me. When getting out the knife clip with scoot along the the wheel and create this exact pattern. I have to be careful in other people cars not to get get their wheel with it.

Hm that is quite possible since it is in my right pocket. Still not sure about OP, considering his is at the very top of the steering wheel.

Parked when the wheel is turned?
to the left of the damage, you can see what looks like another scoot mark from a knife clip.

Our dang sensitive wheel covers. I had to sand mine down , upon delivery mine was scuffed at bottom left of the wheel. Did not want to hassle with parts and services department for brand new truck :/

It’s actually at 12:00 on my wheel so my knife clip probably doesn’t get up there and I wear a silicone wedding band. I’m going to check out the wheel covers and maybe condition the leather?

The steering wheel turns you know.

You probably parked with the wheels turned, so that the 12 o'clock position was at 6 o'clock.

Notice the shape of the striations. Starts narrow, gets wide and then narrows again. This indicates an initial light contact, then heavy and finally light. This happens as you scoot in. There's the initial contact, up to the apex of the arc and then it stops contacting as you pass by. Also see the second mark in the background... this is happening over multiple events.

I wish I could show the steering wheel out of my Lexus, because the Mark's look identical. Unfortunately I'm in SF for work for a couple days.

Same thing happened to my Outback steering wheel. Only thing I can think of is my pocket knife clip somehow did it. Or manufacturer defect, but I doubt it.
