ok so i've tried other forums and talked to a lot of different people...has anyone or does anyone know how to reverse a lowered truck back to factory..from my understanding ( never had a lowered truck before) it has been dropped 2inches in the front and 4 in the rear... the guy said they did a drop spindle front and they cut the springs for some reason, and a shackle flip in the rear... i have no idea what they are and what needs to be changed...i do know the bed is laying on the rear end because it scratches and scrapes on the littlest bump..the front end is tight and doesn't wander at all....any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated

Will need new stock spindles, new springs. Then a leaf pack for the rear with new u bolts. The shakle flip can stay I believe. Also may need new brake lines. Also shock length may be a issue once raised back up.

i have the original spindles, do they have a race and bearings and ball joint that may need attention also? being a 33 yr old truck not sure when or if they have ever been done before so before i put them on i might as well get them up to par, i've priced out the main items i need, pretty much everything you listed except leafs so far...how difficult are brake lines? any idea?

I have an ‘88 with the identical setup. First off more info on the year would be helpful. However you should do the following:

Front- new spindles, new coil springs, and new shocks. The lengths should be different with the springs cut.

Rear: they did an axle flip with a lowering shackle. I have the same setup, with the same problems. You don’t need new rear springs, but you will need stock axle hardware, and stock shackles. Along with new shocks again.

Being that old, I wouldn’t chance not servicing the bearings. Or just do the swap that the current Chevy pickups run, just buy better than stock hubs. Brake lines are going to be kinda a pain because you still need to attach the fittings to the ends. I typically try to do labor myself but I don’t mess with brake lines lol.

They aren't a sealed hub, they are standard open bearings that need to be hand packed and loaded onto the spindle along with the rotor/housing.

I only suggested the 6lug hubs because it’ll be easier to look for parts and wheels for it. Hardly any places at least in Houston have c10 pickups or similar. If you’re like me the I hate waiting for parts. I would rather do a 6l lug swap and have an even greater aftermarket than the 5 lugs

I'm not sure the change over is that straight forward, but you're right the 5 on 5 lug market has really changed since the 90's. You'd also have to change the rear axles and brakes then to make the front swap work.

@DocME , its an '86 c10 shortbed 2wd.. figured on the new springs, shocks, why not just use the OEM spindles and rebuild what i can? any negatives to this?

rear- what are the stock axle hardware? stock shackles seem simple..i'm sure i'm wrong about the simplicity of it though.. and what exactly is an axle flip...like i said i literally know nothing...thought about just leaving it lowered and getting the correct stuff for it but i can't stand bending over to get gas on 2 different tanks...have you started on yours yet?

as far as lugs its a 5 lug, conversion isn't really in the future because mainly i don't want to, mainly just looking for a decent cruiser that can DD once and awhile, waiting for parts isn't an issue since i have an '18 taco

I'd do just what you propose to do. Actually, that's exactly what I'm going to do when I'm ready for that project. I want to put it back to stock.....well I might leave the lowering shackles in. Those trucks had a massive rake and the lowering shackles are a good fit.

Rear: I'm assuming that there's an aftermarket flip kit, that flips the axle from the bottom of the leaf springs to the top of them. This nets you about 6" of drop. You will need to flip it to the bottom side of the axle. Usually there was a kit that made this happen. It came with new u bolts, and a new plate. You'd be best off to use the stock u bolts, shim, plate combo. You'll have to research what you have and what are stock parts for this. Pictures of your rear setup would be helpful to make sure this is accurate.

thanks for the advice DocME, i'll get some pics this evening and post them up to show what i'm working with and maybe you can give me your best guess...for some reason they notched out a crossmember under the bed that the rear of the leaf sits into....maybe that will tell somebody something...

You might consider getting ahold of a factory service manual. The illustrations alone will likely help you understand your truck's layout.

Yep, that's part of the flip kit. You had to notch the frame for the axle to have clearance. With just a flip kit you shouldn't have too much axle strike on the bed. But in my youth I wanted it LOW so I left the lowering shackle in addition to the flip kit. When ever I'd go over a bump in the road the axle housing would strike the bed. That's why I think you have both a flip kit and either a lowering shackle or a front spring mount on there....

So for the rear here's the lowering kits that are possible:

    -2" shackle only.
-4" Shackle and front spring mount.
    - 6" flip kit and bed notch.
    - 8" was a flip kit AND one of the following: Shackle or front spring mount.

Most of these parts had a hammered powered coat so it should be easy to see what you have.

@Hobbs, that is a valid comment, i have an understanding of the layout what i don't have is the knowledge to reverse someones shit job of a lowered truck LOL we've all tried to fix someone elses mistake, the misfortune is on my part because when i got it i liked it now after 4 months i find it annoying to slowly pull into places and i can't just slide under it to look around once and while...i know first world problems...LOL all seriousness i've always wanted a squarebody truck and the ones around me need more work than i have time or they want max dollars for decent rides, now i know why i never bought a car... i'll end up getting a service manual because they are nice to have when something comes up i don't know about...

Maybe don't think of it as "reversing" the shit job, but instead just replacing with factory parts. Good luck with it!
