What's up guys! So I just bought a certified 2016 Tacoma sr5 with 31k miles on it. Don't know how I missed it but I noticed just below the weather stripping on the driver's door door will there is some rust bubbling through the paint. Just 2 small spots maybe the size of a quarter. Think Toyota will cover it and repair it properly to prevent it from getting any worse? Going to call the dealer tomorrow to schedule them to check it out.IMG_20190514_171317328.jpg IMG_20190514_171310285.jpg

I know they will cover it...you just have to put in a claim on your warranty.

Unfortunately you aren't the only one with this problem.

Had mine repaired in all 4 door sills last fall or so. There now is a tsb for this issue so you won't have the challenges some of us early adopters faced.

Good news is Toyota footed the bill and my truck cam back flawless.

Since you just bought the truck, and it is under the certified warranty, I would think this issue would be resolved by the selling dealership. Got me wondering, so I checked the warranties (for both certified used and new standard)... guess what, it appears they (Toyota) are not obligated to repair. Again, I’m sure any reputable dealership will correct, and most certainly corporate would advocate in your favor.

Excerpt from standard 60 month Owners “Corrosion Perforation Warranty” covers rust-though (yours isn’t that bad yet, do we actually have to have a hole in the metal?)... and also, failures from salt and/or water contamination aren’t covered, WTF?

I definitely hope they will considering it's only a 3 year old truck. I was told it has a 7 year paint warranty so maybe it would be covered under that. Either way it's gonna get fixed if Toyota doesn't do it I will. Hope to keep this truck for a long time unless I win the lottery.

    The 3/36 caveat stinks.

My truck is holding up okay thus far (though I have cleaned up a bit already) but when it shows it will stink footing the bill.

The nice thing is my understand is it is not actual body rot.
