When I take my parking brake off the handle is very loose as it gets close to the dash. This causes the brake light in the instrument cluster to constantly come on (with acceleration, etc.). If I fiddle with it I can get it to go back off but it's annoying. Is there an easy way to tighten this? Is there a spring that's warn out?

    Thanks!

Brake light coming on under acceleration may be due to low brake fluid level. This has happened to me once before.

Parking brake can be adjusted underneath the truck, pretty simple, two wrenches should get it done. You’re looking to move the bellcrank forward/backwards to adjust the tension. If I recall, it should be adjusted to between 12-18 clicks.

There is a switch that the parking brake contacts, which may need to be adjusted. I’m not sure if it is adjustable, but it should be, I’ve just never needed to, so I don’t know.

go under the steering wheel column if you take the plastic cover you'll need a 12mm socket and a Philips screw driver. Careful not to jank any cables or the hood release lever.

You should be able to see the whole thing. See of it wobbles by janking it a little bit. Pull the handle and release to see if there's any play. I saw mine the other day it looks like it has a spring maybe something is loose or broken on yours. I doubt low brake fluid has anything to do with it because even though is connected to the rear brakes it has its got its own components.

There's a chance brake fluid level could be at just above the point of turning on the brake light.
I've had the same thing happen. When you accelerate, the fluid in the brake reservoir shifts, causing the level sensor to read l low.

But, in this case it sounds like it's the E Brake linkage causing the light to come on.
