Hey all, I know most of you guys are partial to bilsteans, and for good reasons, but I was thinking of doing something different than the same old same old for my 02 dc prerunner. I got stock suspension and I was looking for a shock that has good road manners, is high quality, and can handle the dirt. Any other suggestions than the faithful 4600's?

Get the 4600s and paint them orange or something, lol

I assume you mensioned the 4600s because you want to keep it at the stock height?

The OMEs are good, but I believe they require a lift, similar to the 5100s. Monroes I hear ride well on the road but don’t handle the dirt very well.

Other than that, you’re looking at spending a grand + for Kings or Icon or something...

Yeah I wanna keep it at stock height, no lift. I think I'll just go with the tried and true :)

I'm looking into the RS9000Xls myself. Did you end up buying them?

I've been in a 1st Gen since 1999. I've tried just about every combination when stock height.

The best ride I've found so far is just plain old standard Gabrials front and rear. Buy them local and you get a lifetime warranty. I've lost track on the number of times I've warrantied them out.

The 1st set all the way around was around $180 bucks. I think if you do the long math. I am around $8 for a full set of shocks

If I think the ride is getting choppy, I swap them out.

I got the bilstean 4600's, which was a huge upgrade from the kyb gas a justs that were shot after 100,000 miles

I figure I put enough effort into this topic already. If the shocks aren't , Billies, Icons,Kings or some other high dollar shock, no one is gonna give a shit about my post.

I know what works for me. After you change them twice, the hard part is taking off and installing the tires.

That's not necessarily true. But if you want to try and compete with even 5100s, which are pretty cheap all things considered, you're going to have to do better than "I've lost count how many times I've have to change them out."

Replacing shocks is easy, but I would also consider it a waste of time to do it that often. Glad it works for you.

    I dunno. Michigan roads suck...bad.

I've blown many shocks on a pothole that was not there yesterday. If I have to warranty 1 shock, I'm warrantying all the shocks.
The question was what gave the best ride for the best price for a daily driver, non lifted?

    My response was Gabrials. My
conditions are much different than any other state. I'm going to take the route that is quickest and cheapest. Waiting for new shocks to get delivered is not for me.

I dunno. 6 or 7 sets in 400,000 miles? Doesn't seem that bad too me.

Like your responses to my post, my opinions don't mean shit. Everybody is different.
